30th November and 1st December Cruising to Miami , Fl.

These are relaxing days giving us the chance to catch up with friends made and with whom we hope to spend time together in the future.

In many ways the staff are ready to prepare for the next cruise. Weather remainsr, but with a storm threatening for our last night.   It doesn't eventuate

We take the opportunity to complete our washing and have everything ready to get us from Miami to Phoenix where we have a stopover before we fly to Honolulu, Hawaii.

We confirm to Victor Jacob , our travel consultant, the arrival details.  He will meet us in Miami outside the Cruise terminal and we come through Immigration and clear Customs with our luggage.

Dinner is the highlight in the Main Dining room, we enjoy a celebratory drink.  enjoy dinner. Have a great night.  Realise the Cruise part of our holiday has just about come to an enjoyable end following a wonderful trip on a beautiful ship in a superb PH Suite.

2nd December, 2017 Arrival In Miami Fl and Flight To Phoenix AZ.

We awake early after a smooth night, to take photos of our arrival into the Port of Miami.

But following a delightful and relaxed breakfast our departure is delayed for some 50 minutes by the immigration officers.

Eventually we depart the ship, having said our farewells and then try to find Victor.

He calls and we respond.  He then meets us in his Lexus, immediately outside the departure/ exit point.

We are delighted to he drives us through Miami along Marine Drive and we talk.  We then stop for a drink etc in an area in Miami, (known as a Russian Area).  It is great to meet him and we talk as to our travels and future plans.

He then drives us to Fort Lauderdale Airport, where we check in and then fly to Phoenix.

We stay at Double tree near the Airport.   We had eaten on the flight and used the shuttle from the Airport.  We arrange for our friends to meet us for Breakfast the following morning.   We love our catch up with Shawn and Corey.  We then take the shuttle from the Hotel check in for our flight to Honolulu.

It has been a terrific couple of days

11th November 2017 Valletta, Malta - spectacular

We had sailed through the night and all morning with Riviera planned to dock in Valletta at around mid day.

Following breakfast we had time to sit in the Café and take in the near perfect morning.  We approached Malta and the Port of Valletta at about 11.20am with the next 45 minutes taken to approach the fortified harbour and then to swing through the sea wall and feast our eyes on the stunningly beautiful harbour.  this is one of the most concentrated UNESCO world Heritage sites in the world.  Malta is a small island.

After the ship was berthed and given the all clear we departed the ship and found our tour which had been arranged by Ann Hicks and her husband Jerry and there are 14 people in total plus our tour guide and driver.  We easily identify our tour guide (joan@maltatourguide.com) and Joan quickly begins to organise us for what we hope will be an exhilarating day.

There is a combination of paved and cobblestone walkways and footpaths.  The whole place is abuzz and we begin with a drive through our port city of Valletta, which is also beautiful and remarkably has a whole variety of history.  The area is well served by shops , restaurants and cafes both internal and outside.  Trik ir-Republica is a recommended site for shopping and food.   There are bakeries serving every type of food, like pastizzi (filo pastry filled with ricotta) and  then ftira a savoury flatbread.

So from 12.45-2.00pm we drive into the City and then are dropped off to undertake a walking tour of the City from Upper Barrakka Gardens down through walkways to St John's C0-Cathedral which unfortunately closes at 12.00pm on Saturdays, but we see several wedding parties.    We stop at several shops to taste and sample the local fair before visiting the Grand Masters Palace State Rooms.  These are opulent rooms from centuries passed.   The building is stunning in both its proportions as well as the style and fit out.

But you also have to picture tiny Malta , right in the middle of the Azure Mediterranean Sea.  With a superb climate sunshine almosat every day and 7,000 years of history this little patch of paradise is just south of Sicily and just North of Africa and is a wealthy state.

The Centre of Valletta is a living Museum, the present incarnation built by the British Nights of St John almost 500 years ago.  Baroque architecture dazzles along meandering laneways.  Malta has been ruled over the ages by Phoenicians, Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans, Byzantines and Arabs, the city is a designated world Heritage Site and we are visiting on 11th November , which is a significant day as to the end of the Great War. There are several displays and pageants held to mark the end of the War.  We stand above the battlements to watch the British Marines parade and celebrate, there are 21 gun salutes and official speeches at the organised events, but the military remains very central to all activities.  We take in the pomp and ceremony.

But food should also be signalled as a key influencer of Maltese life and here we see the combination of Sicilian and British food with a smattering of Arab and Spanish food.    The national dish is Fenkata, a feast of rabbit. But the most popular dish is dolphin , called lampuki, served as soup, stew or pie.

But this is also a rich wine producing area, with Merlot and Chardonnay popular, but the local varieties of Ellewza and Ghirghentina are full bodied and tasty.  The local beer is Cisk and is easily found.  Ken enjoyed the beer, not so sure about local varieties of wine but a beautiful Chardonnay.

So let me retrace our tour to the Valletta Waterfront where there are 19 warehouses, built in 1700's by Grand Master Pinto and are a baroque wonderland of restaurants, shops, outdoor cafes, etc.  we will explore on our return from our organised tour.

The Upper Barrakka Gardens date back to the 18th Century and was original;ly the private garden of Italian knights, but it offers wonderful panoramic views over the port and city.  We enjoyed very much.

The Grand Master's Palace is an imposing history and presentation of the history of the Knights, European monarchs and battles and sieges.  Malta's Presidential Offices are housed inside this Palace.

St. Johns Co-Cathedral is home to the famous painting by Caravaggio "The Beheading of St John.  The interior is beautifully decorated by Baroque Style.

From the centre of the city we then drive about 20 minutes to the centre of Malta and visit the now world renowned Ta' Qali, which was originally a WW!! airfield but has been transformed into an enormous village of potters and artisans  and then we visit the Megalithic Temples and structures which date back almost 6,000 years.  We visited Hagar Qim's Shrine to Mother Earth, where we watched a short video presentation of the Megalithic Temples and their influence over thousands of years.    From here we drove back past the Blue Grotto and the rock structures of Wied-iz-Zurrieq.  We were unable to schedule a boat tour.

Our guide then presented us with the history of Mdina and explained the significance of the St Paul's Cathedral and Museum complex and its role in the training of nuns and church leaders.  This is an impressive walled township.  We walked around in the late afternoon and early evening in the darkening passways.

We drive through Mosta and took in the Mosta dome which is a famed 19th Century church, also known as St Mary's Church of the Rotunda.  This church has an ornate and intricate floor, ornate murals, Woodcarvings and a collection of silver trinkets which are seen as a national treasure.

Then to the Dingli Cliffs and from these we see stunning ocean views as well as back to the islands highest point the Madlieni Chapel.   We are now about 14-15 km from the Cruise Ship terminal.

Religion and its interface via outstanding and beautiful churches, plays a significant part in life in the Maltese community.

We have enjoyed a wonderful day full of history, beautiful churches with various forms of construction, superb scenery .  We return to the ship at about 7.00pm.   Departure is not for several hours ( 11.30pm ) but we then enjoy walking through the stores.  we decide to dine back on board.

But on our way through Jeanette finds a store selling Medina glass and we eventually select a beautiful piece for our lounge rom.  It will be shipped arriving in late December, 2017.

Malta has been a highlight of the cruise and an unexpected beauty.  We think it is a place that we can return to on future travels and spend more time.

5th December, 2017. A quiet day in Honolulu.

We woke to another windy but warm morning.

Following breakfast, another load of washing started by Ken and finished by Jeanette, which brings us up to date with everything clean again following our travels and transit to Honolulu following leaving Oceania Riviera in Miami.

Ken then walks to Ala Moana shopping centre, then walks to Verizon and updates his Verizon telephone number for another 12 months expiring 5th December, 2018.  He was required to purchase a new SIM card.  The new number is 808-291-1914 and it has 4 gig of data.

Ken subsequently visited Walgreens and purchased tablets after meeting the the pharmacist and discussing his current ankle issues.

He subsequently caught the Waikiki Trolley Bus Pink Route, did a lap of the circuit through Waikiki and through Waikiki Beach.  He took photos and videos of the Hawaiian Village Gardens.

A quiet period sitting on the beach and then returned to our condo, where Jeanette was finishing some ironing.

Lunch of sandwiches and cinnamon rolls, with some fresh fruit.

Ken off for a swim.  Then just relaxing.

6th and 7th November 2017. Transfer to Oceania Riviera and excursion to Murali and Burano, Venice, Italy.

We transferred yesterday from the Kempinski San Clemente Palace Hotel yesterday morning to the JWMarriott Resort and Spa.  We had enjoyed the Kempinski Venice Hotel which is a grand beautifully furnished old monastery.

The Marriott is on the other hand a contemporary resort style hotel complex on its own island and we had a superb suite overlooking the garden and then across the Lagoon to St Marks square.  We were transferred by motor launch from and two both hotels.  The transfer from the Marriott to the cruise terminal was completed by Motor launch between 11.30am to 12.00pm.  It was quite a rough but quick trip, as the w3ather was cold and windy and the water was rough.

At the cruise terminal we were ushered up a ramp, our luggage was collected and transferred to the ship.

Jeanette and a Ken were processed through immigration and customs then guided through the terminal, photos taken, checked in and then boarded the Oceania Riviera at 12.15pm.  We were subsequently advised that lunch was served in the Terrace Restaurant on floor12 or we could have sandwiches or burgers on Waves Grill.  We elected to dine in Terrace and enjoyed a spectacular lobster salad lunch and a glass of white wine.

At 1.15pm we were advised that Owners and Penthouse Suites were now available.  We then exited the Terrace Restaurant, then caught the lift down 2 floors to Level 10 and walked along to Suite 10002.  We were delighted, it is beautifully furnished, with separate marble bathroom and stand alone walk in robe.

Our butler, Binout, then called by to introduce himself, open champagne and take our Order for afternoon canapés.

We waited some 10 minutes for our luggage to arrive and quickly unpacked anD stored our cases under the bed.

Ken had arranged for us to attend another Concert this evening, but with weather so inclement, and appreciating issues getting back to the cruise terminal via the people transporter, which closes at 10.00pm, we reluctantly decided to forego the concert.

The weather only continues to deteriorate, with fierce squalls and thunder and lightning, with heavy winds.  Unfortunately, the forecast for tomorrow, with our planned excursion to Murano and Burano is extremely poor.

We had planned to dine in Venice, but the weather changed our plans.  Instead we had dinner in the stunning Grand Dining Room.  We enjoyed dinner with 2 other couples.  Ken always has a prime rib an$ baked potato and salad followed by Creme brûlée .  He enjoyed a superb French Cab Sav from the Provence region. Following dinner we contracted Ken and Reesa and then Karen and Rich as to details re tomorrow mornings excursion.

Ken had also intended to visit the fish market, but the rain changed those plans.  We have now seen Venice in almost every weather, beautiful but you want it to be dry and not extreme.

Breakfast was superb after we both slept very soundly.  We arranged to meet at 8.30am in the level 5 reception area, before exiting the ship to catch the shuttle to meet our guide and then to do the first part of our launch boat tour down the Grand Canal.

It was still pouring rain, with wind gusts in the 30-40 km per hour.  We met our guide then waited at the wharf for the launch, which was delayed 15 minutes because of weather restrictions.

We sailed down the Grand Canal with detailed descriptions of the many Palace stories and histories.

Thevwindows of our launch were quickly fogged and it was difficult to take in all of the scenery in such trying conditions, but we still enjoyed this part of the tour.  We then travelled the 30 minutes to Murano Island where we visited the famous Murano Glass bowing factory, watching demonstrators produce superb glassware and vases of stunning colours and shapes and sizes.

Then into the sales rooms where we were shown a stunning variety of glass in every colour, shape and size. We came to Murano keen to purchase a piece for our lounge room.  However, despite our interest, we were unable to identify any items of keen interest and the aggressive sales process only accentuated Jeanettes “determination “ not to be pushed into a purchase.  In the end we walked away.

From here we travelled to the small picturesque island of Burano where we viewed the stunning coloured houses on the canals and th3 beautiful handiwork and lace work.

We also tasted several types of local food and biscuits.  Then we had a drink and sandwiches.

This was a wonderful tour of Burano and the rain has finally stopped and the winds have diminished.

Our guide got us back to the cruise terminal at 3.30pm, from where we caught the shuttle to the ship as another heavy rain squall came through.

This has been a very enjoyable excursion with these 2 couples who we are hopeful of remaining friends with over the cruise.

We change into drier clothes, then go to the Riviera Lounge for the emergency briefing and pre cruise safety briefing.  Here we receive the structured message, then put on our life jackets.  The briefing concludes at 5.15pm.

Time to shower and change for dinner, but be prepared for the ships departure and sail through the Grand Canal.  The ship departs at 6.00pm and we have a spectacular 30 minutes sailing down the Grand Canal.  Unfortunately, it is dark so we don’t get the full beauty of the whole Venice scenarios.

Dinner is again in the Grand Dining Room.  Just a superb evening with 2 couples.  The show this evening is with an excellent singer.

4th December Our arrival and first days at Hilton Hawaiian Village - Lagoon Tower Suite 1660.

We departed from Sky Harbour Phoenix on Sunday 3rd December, 2017 following overnight at Double Tree Suites near the airport.

We had departed the Oceania Riviera following a terrific cruise and we were picked up at the terminal by Victor our travel and air fares guru.  We didn’t have a photo so it was guess work and talking over our phones.  It was good to meet him and discuss our forward plans.

He took us for a drive through Miami and then down A1A Collins street where we stopped for a drink and an offe4 of breakfast.  We enjoyed his company and discussed a wide range of trave” issues.   He then transported us to Fort Lauderdale International Airport, where we flew by American Airlines to Charlotte before transferring to a flight to Phoenix, AZ.

Both flights were on time and we enjoyed excellent se4vice in firs5 class on each.

Arrival in Phoenix was slightly late , we then got our luggage off the carousel and 3xited after having the concierge telephone Double Tree and arrange pick up by the shuttle.

Checkin  occurred some 20 minutes later.  We were in our suite by 7.15pm after a long travel date.  Early to bed and with expectations of breakfast Sunday morning with Corey and Shawn, who we had met on our last cruise.

Morning came quickly after a good sleep for Ken and a restless night for Jeanette.  We repacked our luggage and then went to the restaurant where we were excited to meet Shawn and Corey. Breakfast was enjoyable and we talked enthusiastically for the entire period where we discussed our current holiday, their plans as well as next year’s planned trip.  We may well travel through Phoenix, where the weather is magical at this time of year.  Also excellent for golf etc.

Following this we transferred via shuttle to Sky Harbour, checked in via the kerbside porter, were through security inside 20 minutes then had about 1 hour 20 minutes to wait before boarding.

This was an excellent flight with a first class meal served by a very attentive staff.  We then slept for over 3 hoursand our 6 hours 30 minutes flight passed very quickly.

We arrived at 3.25m and exited the plane for quite a long walk to collect our luggage, where we were met by our Blacklane driver.  He whisked us to the car park where a very comfortable Town Car was waiting.  Thirty minutes later we arrived at the Grand Waikikian Lobby, where we checked in via the “elite”member check in areas.  Our luggage was collected and was delivered to our suite 1660 some 10 minutes later.

This is a superb entrance to the property away from the central checkin.  A short walk down the ramp to the Lagoon Tower foyer, where we caught the lift.  We arrived at our suite 1660 ( 2 bedroom plus condo) and we were both delighted.  It is a lovely corner suite.  Recently refurnished with new comfortable sofa and curtains, overlooking the lagoon and out to the beach.

We both slept well.

The morning brought some clouds but a like cool breeze.  We had breakfast inside and not on the balcony due to the breeze,   Then did a load of washing and made our list for shopping later in the morning at Ala Moana shopping centre.

Ken also has arranged golf for Thursday and Friday.  We also plan to hire a car and travel to the north of the island to see the large rolling waves.

We did walk to the shopping centre and purchased our food for 4-5 days.  Then a taxi back to Hawaiian Village.

Following lunch a walk through the resort.

Then a siesta and swim .  Dinner in tonight.

An excellent first day in perfect weather.  Photos of the resort and our view together with the suite are attached

2nd December 2017 Arrival in Miami FL

Yesterday was a quiet sea day, with a range of sea day activities but we were all focused upon packing in the late afternoon prior to our final dinner.  In mid afternoon we have an hours show in the Riviera Lounge where several of the crew from non perorming areas gave a terrific entertaining performance.

We enjoyed dinner and decided to miss the  show and complete packing and putting our cases out by 10.00pm.  We also gave our bonus tip to Renen and Johannes our Room Steward and his Assistant and then our Butler, Dimitar.

We said goodbye to several friends, Anne and Jerry, Laura and Vern, Karen and Rich as well as Sonia and Wayne.  These are the friends with whom we enjoyed great times on this segment.   We also wished Rob well and he confirmed his wife Martha has now been flown to Madrid, then to London and finally via Los Angeles and Newport Beach  following her hip operation in Tenerife following a fall outside th3 main bar.

The arrival in Miami was before daylight and subsequently turned into a beautiful morning.

We are looking forward to meeting Victor.

Breakfast in the Grand Dining Room prior to departure, which has been delayed by Immigration and Customs.

Just a fantastic cruise on a beautiful ship.  Wonderful food great itinerary.

Breakfast in The a Grand Dining Room our last morning.

5th November 2017. Planned visit to Verona, return to a storm in Venice and Vivaldi Concert.

We checked out of Kempinski San Clemente Palace following breakfast and took the short water taxi ride to the JW Marriot Resort and Spa on its own nearby island.  Our suite, ultra modern, was available on our arrival so we checked in then caught the 10.00am water shuttle  to Venice St Lucia Railwa6 Station and to catch the 10.50am Frecciarossi Train from Venice to Verona a trip of 72 minutes.  Just fantastic train and we sat with 2 young women from Mexico in Car 11 seats 4a and 5a.  Talked at length as their holiday and the trip passed quickly.

But as we travelled the weather deteriorated into a cold blustery storm with heavy consistent rainfall.

We exited the station intending to join the Hop on Hop off bus from the station.  But due to the storm and persistent rainfall, the se4vice was cancelled with no recommencement scheduled.

We were faced with a choice, to push on but in terrible conditions or return by an earlier train to Venice, hopefully ahead of the storm.  So we abandoned our visit and took an earlier slower train back to Venice St Lucia.  But as we arrived back in Venice light rain commenced and this subsequently transitioned into a fully blown dramatic storm.

Jeanette and I decided to walk back along the glorious Grand Canal towards St Marks Square, but the weather only continued to get worse as we slowly trudged through the myriad of side tracks, crossing bridges etc.

We made a wrong turn, Ken’s poor direction, and this added another 10 minutes, so we missed the Marriott Shuttle back to the island and hotel so we were caught in the very worst of conditions trying to shelter for the next 40 minutes until the following shuttle would arrive.  It was just terrible, we were wet and tired.

Then the shuttle arrived and we made in back despite a choppy ride.

Later Ken went back into St Marks and then walked to Vivaldi’s Church where the concert was scheduled for 8.30pm.

He then found a small restaurant where there was a smaller group at a table all attending the concert and this table of 10 was put together and a meal was served at cost of €17 plus drinks.  They were an interesting group.

The hours Concert was simply brilliant with and extraordinarily gifted solo violinist supported by 6 other musicians.

Well worth the trouble to visit despite the horrendous weather, but Ken had to get back to the shuttle and there was @ high tide and water flooded the square and walkways do had to walk along the raised walkways put in place this afternoon and early evening.

The ferry arrived but docked at the nearby alternative MS St.  Marco wharf.  Ken arrived home at 10.50pm and whilst still pouring rain the wind had diminished.  A challenging day.  The concert was one of the holiday highlights.

A very wet Venice, but still amazing

4th October, 2017. Venice and Piazzo St Marks

Today is really a relaxing catch up and leisurely visit to the tourist spots of Venice.  After an enjoyable but hectic travel day today is a much more leisurely pace.

Breakfast was served in another restaurant. Here at Kempisky San Clemente Palace it is celebrated as the start of the day with a spectacular brunch type smorgasbord commencing with champagne and then moving progressively through the various phases.  We skipped the champagne but enjoyed breakfast and returned to our suite and then collected coats and awaited the 10.20am motor yacht (launch) to St. Marks square and the spectacular Doges Palace, the Basilica of St Marks and the square with its magical music.  We also of course see the Bridge of Sighs and of course the gondola with their happy singing gondoliers.

The weather is dry but very grey skies and little infrequent bursts of weak sunshine.  But temperatures are 16-18 degrees Celsius and it is quite pleasant out and about.  We walk through many side-streets and take in the magical Venetian glass and fine linen, although to be fair there is less linen than on prior visits and far more shops selling tourist trinkets.

After 2 hours plus and many photos we stop for lunch in a cafe type shop and enjoy panini, with a drink and cappuccinos.  We have enjoyed our time but the swarming crowds and 3 cruise ships arrived this morning so it is slow and tedious to walk about.

But please understand we are not complaining, there is still a wonderful totally haphazard bustle to everything.  A clear change is the number of Chinese tourists.  Japanese and Italians still predominate but there are changes occurring.  There seems to be far less Brits and relatively few Americans.

At 2.20pm we again board the motor launch and make our way back to the hotel having enjoyed our time.

Jeanette has posted photos on Facebook.  We will relax before going back in later for dinner and to listen to some music.

22nd October 2017 So Sofitel check out and Transfer to the Sofitel Sentosa Resort and Spa

After yesterday’s wonderful day at Gardens by the Bay, and then a quiet dinner at “experience” restaurant at So Sofitel the time has come quickly to conclude our first phase of the holiday in Singapore and transfer to the Sofitel Sentosa Resort and Spa.

Bur beforehand I will provide a brief commentary as to the unique boutique hotel in a prime location in Robinson Street.

Whilst from the exterior it has a traditional distinguished old world look about it, the interior is a stunning contemporary modernist approach.  It is stunning and most unusual with stylish design elements by Singapore based French interior designer Isabelle Miaja combined with sharp graphic design touches by Karl Lagerfield.  The hotels modernist grandeur is unparalleled.

The Hotel brings an edgy but sophisticated art concept to every room with stunning pieces and custom made furniture bringing timeless French elegance with sophisticated Singapore chic .  We had a So standard King room and it was totally different with the highlight being a light box in the ceiling depicting a stained glass roof.  Quite stunning.

Following breakfast we packed for our 12.00pm check out and our Mercedes was waiting to take us the short 15 minutes to Sentosa.  We have visited the island several times previously, but never to this location beside the sea and diagonally across the road from the magnificent Sentosa Golf Club.

We arrive at the resort having climbed through the lush tropical rainforest and it can only be described as a superb and beautiful entrance.  It is a relatively new resort definitely French luxury in every aspect..  It is set atop a cliff and amidst stunning tropical greenery and gardens.  Compared to the small eclectic So Sofitel, this resort is spread out with beautiful pools providing the centrepiece of the property.

Our suite is not ready and we are taken to the Le Bar for a cool drink prior to our room being available.  This overlooks the harbour but also looks through the pool areas.

The lobby has a unique bespoke lighting installation called the Milky Way and is another most unusual highlight..

It remains humid and hot and another heavy squall passes through the resort, but if anything th3 rain only magnifies th3 beauty.

We have Suite 375 in the Peace Wing and it is a stunning set up.  It consists of a large entrance lobby with a separate lounge sitting room,  together with a master suite of king size bedroom and separate bathroom with full bath area, separate shower and toilet areas and an isolated walk in dressing room.

We have a rest ,because tonight we are dining with James Walker at Singapore Cricket Club, where Ken has used his MCC reciprocal membership.  He has the letter of introductions but also requires passport identification.

James arrives at 7.15pm and we have a drink in the members lounge before climbing the stairs to enjoy a wonderful meal at the Padang Restaurant, it’s fine dining arrangement. We have a superb evening and enjoyed James’ company.

James is enjoying life in Singapore lives close to the city in Richardson’s Quay, looks fit and loves his son.  As he said life wasn’t easy, but he has enjoyed Singapore and is hopeful of a promotion with Shekl, still based here.

We also enjoyed a Margaret River red wine at reasonable prices.  Then back to Sentosa in a taxi, cost S$17.00.

21 October 2017. Marina Bay , the Merlion, the Marina Bay Shoppes and Super heroes.

Breakfast is served in “experience “ restaurant and we both enjoy thebreakfast and the terrific service from the efficient and friendly staff.  Following breakfast we collect our cameras and iPad and then begin what turns out to be a long walk around the entire marina Bay precinct.  We commence walking passed Lau Pa Sat, the bustling eating area of the traders , then down Ruffles Quay and then come to Marina Boulevard, where we walk through a park area and then along the race track circuit.

We also take an extended break in the Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, a superb retail setup with several levels of escalators leading to every conceivable global brand.  It is pleasant and the hordes of people are not about this early.  We take photos of a variety of scenic points and catch the Singapore Flyer, the wonderful Marina Bay complex with the ship atop the buildings.  We also see the futuristic science museum.

Our walk takes us through the green park area of the Promontory, Marina Bay which is a grassed park area overlooking the Bay Area.  We stop here for photos.

We continue on and pass the Marina Bay City gallery.

We have been walking for in excess of 75 minutes and we can see a thunder and electrical storm building in the distance and it is apparent that we will have very heavy rainfall, lightning and thunder hit the area where we are walking in some 20 minutes.  It is too far to go anywhere, but we decide to seek refuge in the shops and upon entering see a food and drink area with Super Hero Cafe being a centre piece.  So we visit and have a drink over the next 45 minutes until the storm front passed, before continuing our walk.  In all honesty we needed a rest because our legs were tiring and we had not even reached half way in our walk.

Our walk tKes us passed the Crystal Pavilion South as we walk along Waterfront Promenade and come to event plaza, where they host a whole range of activities as well as the light show. Following our drink and with water everywhere we come out of the Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands and walk pass the Crystal Pavilion North, which has been taken over by a leading retail store. From here we walk by the Art Science Museum then across the Helix bridge . By now we have settled back into the walk and take photos of the Singapore Flyer wheel, before crossing the Youth Olympic Park area.  This leads us to the Marina Bay Seating Gallery and the Float at Marina Bay, which becomes a floating grandstand fit the Singapore Grand Prix.

We are getting very tired but now get to sit and relax and refresh at the outdoor theatres.

The path then takes us around the Jubilee Bridge and we stop at Merlion Park, take photos of the Merlion, then walk along the Esplanade passing the One Fullerton, , the fabulous Fullerton Pavilion and it’s showcasing art, then stop for a break at Clifford Pier, before skirting through the majestic The Fullerton Bay Hotel.

This has been a fantastic walk, we are both tired, but delighted.  We do love this clean beautifully laid out city.  We have been walking albeit slowly for almost 4 hours in th3 heat and humidity.

We decide to have lunch at Lau Pa Sat, where there are a variety of foods, but select a bakery.  We enjoy the totally different breads and assorted Vietnamese type bakery foods.

In the afternoon, we both decide to have a rest and sleep from 2.45pm through until almost 7.00pm.

We then eat snacks not wanting anything more substantial.  It has been a great first full day.  Tomorrow we plan a tour of the Gardens by the Water.

23rd October 2017. Gardens by the Bay - Just Simply Amazing

On our last visit to Singapore these magnificent gardens were being translated from the vision to construction. So we were particularly anxious to see the finished product, which has regularly been described as an outstanding eco environment creation.

We enjoyed a superb breakfast at So Sofitel and were picked up at 9.00pm by a small bus and we drove some 20 minutes to the park area.   Having been deposited at the entrance we entered the large Park and as first activity we boarded the audio tour which is a small bus which then gives you a 25 minute tour through the outer areas of the park and provided an excellent informative audio commentary as to the Park activities prior to us then entering the specific activities.  This also enabled us to see the amazing coloured trees of varying sizes which serve multiple purposes such as heating and cooling tours, solar panels and water reticulation throughout the resort.

Thereare several sizes of these amazing steel trees with vegetation growing up the sides, but they are really amazing energy storage and generating plants using eco friendly technology such as solar , wind turbines and water collection facilities for the park, when combined with the amazing air conditioned gardens are simply amazing.

Following this audio tour we had an excellent guide to commence our tour through the two garden indoor worlds.  I will attempt to describe them, but probably will not do justice.  These are immense glass and stainless steel structures which are environmentally controlled to simulate the various climates by use of water mist and cooling technologies from the trees.

It is a stunning air conditioned environment, with an immense range of plants.

So let me commence with some detailed commentary as to the various attractions. Firstly, there is the Golden Garden which reflects the desert areas with various cactus and desert growths. Then you come to the Canopy which is a sheltered area where the tickets are sold and the entry point to the real stars being the Flower Dome and The Cloud Forest.  These are the giant Sulver and Glass domes with air conditioned eco zones.  We started in the Flower Dome and saw gardens constructed from a whole range of nations and eco zones from across the world, including the Australian outback.  We walked through these amazing pavilions with a gentle sloping walkway.  It took us some 90minutes to walk through and take photos of the various exhibits.  Several photos are included.

Then we came through the canopy area and back to the entrance to the Cloud Forest and we can only describe the next almost 2 hours as a sensational experience unlike anything else we have done in the world.

You enter and face the 50 metre waterfall, which is a centrepiece of the whole exhibit and then walk through various rainforest areas of numerous plant and fern varieties.  There are gentle walkways where you encounter amazing varieties of plants all vigorously growing within this controlled tropical atmosphere.  Every hour there is a fine water mist over the plants, but this seems to miss the walkways..  you continue to ever so slowly climb, but it is an easy walk, all the time engrossed by the beauty of the plants and the amazing outlook over the harbour and back across the skyline including the nearby Marina Bay Sands resort.

At the top you also then get to walk along the suspended pathway, the magical walkway that is suspended from the glass and steel ceiling.  Simply stunning .

We next came to the Supertree Grove and the OCBC Skyway.  These are the super trees which provide the solar energy, eco power, water collection and venting of hot air from the domes.  These Super Trees also have other vines and bamboo growing on them.  They range in height from 20- 50 metres and each is activated independently to provide this dynamic eco environment.  Quite frankly they are amazing and set the scenery for this wonderful high tech garden.  There are several photos attached.

Next is the giant outdoor floral clock, which was partially under reconstruction during our visit. In addition, there are several heritage gardens being, Indian Garden, Chinese Garden, Malay Garden and Colonial Garden.

There are also several other outdoor pieces of art such as the planet, a large sculpture of a baby boy in alabaster.  There is the Meadow and Sun Pavilion, the Canyon and the Silver Garden.

Jeanette and Ken thoroughly enjoyed the Far East Organisation Children’s Garden which is a large water park for children of all ages with a variety of water spouts and fountIns fit the children to play in.

We completed the tour and then got a taxi back to So Sofitel having had a wonderful morning.

Following a wash and clean up we went out to the vendor markets for some Chinese food.

After lunch, Jeanette decided to rest, but Kem caught the train from Raffles Statuon some 300 meters down Robinson Road and had a great afternoon.

Dinner tonight was in house at “experience “ Restaurant where we enjoyed a superb 3 course meal.  Ken also enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine.

This has been a fantastic 4 days and 3 nights here at Sofitel So.  Our accommodation has been great, venue and convenient to everything.  We have had sufficient time to not be rushed.

Back at the pool here at Sofitel Sentosa Resort and Spa.  A wonderful morning.

24th October 2017- Full day tour of Island with Kranji War Memorial, Bright Hill Buddhist Temple and Changi War Museum.

An early pick up following breakfast.  Our driver picked us up at 8.15am and we were shuttled to the Chinatown Information Centre where there were many tour groups being put together and distributed.  We had a small group of 14 people for our tour .

We departed Chinatown following a brief visit to the Buddhist Temple here in Chinatown.

The tour took us through several residential areas and then onto a highway where we subsequently pulled into an area where we stopped to walk over the Henderson Waves bridge a stunning architectural structure which takes you to the top of the Mount not far from Sentosa.  We can see the hundreds of ships in the harbour , the rainforest as well as the Cable Car from the mainland at Mount Furlon to Sentosa.

We also walk some 500 metres along the bridge to its highest point of 86m and take in the stunning views.  From here we walk back ftoward th3 bus by passing through a beautiful rain forest area.

Our next  stop is an entertainment park which has been developed by the owners of Tiger Balm.  This park celebrates a whole variety of culture and the deadly sins.  It was fascinating to walk through and listen to the explanations of the various displays.

The tour then takes us on a drive through various small hamlet type areas to the Kranji War Memorial, which is a beautifully maintained cemetery of war graves from WW2 and the fall to the Japanese.  These were really terrible times for the 40,000-60,000 military detainees and to the many thousands who subsequently died through their harsh treatment on the Changi Burma railway and maltreatment in prisons.

There were hundreds if not thousands of Australian graves.  It was a solemn occasion and you only realise how hard this all must have been.  Our guide was my age and explained in detail the horrors.  He has also been a guide for many years to the returning veterans and prisoners of war, but these days there are fewer as many have now passed on.  The Singaporeans still have a remarkable soft spot for the vets.

Then to lunch at a beautiful Black and White building well restored into a restaurant specialising in weddings and special events but used by this tour company 3 times per week.  The restaurant was named Beaulieu.  It was a good meal and the area also overlooked the straits where th3 expected invasion never materialised.  We also saw the last of the large gun batteries that remained unaired after the Japanese stored the island from the Malay Peninsula, and not from the sea.  We stopped at th3 border crossing , the old area adjacent to Malaysia where the Japanese crossed.

Following lunch we travelled to the Bright Hill Buddhist Temple a large stunning collection of buildings with a large modern temple capBle of holding 3,000 worshippers.  The Buddhist Monks travel from across Asia to worship.  Inspiring, but also you realise the significance of th3 commitment to education and schooling.  In the same area are accommodations and also a large Buddhist crematorium.

Subsequently, we moved on to drive back through the area to the Changi War Museum, where we spent 45 minutes slowly walking through th3 exhibits depicting the horrors of the imprisonment and the horrific treatment.  The story of the terrible hardships of the Burma Railway and th3 thousands who died, but you also realise that the nations of India, New Zealand and Australia suffered horrendous loss of life through the brutality of the Japanese.

From here we travelled back through the former British garrison barracks and are shocked by the size of the barracks and the amount of land still guarded by barbed wire fencing.  Yes some is being used by the Singaporean military, but much remains vacant and will be progressively reclaimed.

We have enjoyed a fantastic tour and have seen many things which aren’t covered by the usual tourist tours.  A most worthwhile day.

We are dropped back in the City Centre by the Swissotel and then delivered to Sentosa by minivans. Our guide was informative and worked hard and deserving of our tip.  You never know what to expect but this was an outstanding tour.

We concluded our day with a late afternoon drink in Le bar enjoying beautiful white wine from New Zealand.  This has been an enjoyable but challenging day with Changi Museum and War Memorial and the cemetery’s bringing the whole Singapore story of the Japanese invasion in stark perspective.

25 and 26 October, 2017. The City and then the Light Shows at Marina Bay Sands and the Gardens by the Bay - Spectacular

We had a light meal and slept well.  The day was forecast to bring thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.  The morning we travelled by shuttle to the Vivo Shopping Mall.

In the afternoon Jeanette decided to have a rest then Ken caught the shuttle from the hotel to the Paragon Shopping Mall then the train MRT to City Hall and took photos of the St. Andrews Cathedral, the National Museum and parklands and the War Memorial.

It was enjoyable, but hot and extremely humid.  Ken then missed the shuttle bus back during a long telephone call with our son David as to his leaving his current employment.  A sense of relief thus is progressing.

From here  a taxi to return to Sofitel Sentosa, where we enjoyed a drink.

Then we caught a shuttle back to the Marina Bay and  Sands are sort and ate in the food court before watching the spectacular Sound and Lights show on the water out front of the resort .  It was simply stunning.  Then a short 10 minutes walk over a bridge to watch the later light and sound show at The Gardens by the Bay where the Supertree Grove comes to life where the trees are featured in another colour and sound display.

We thoroughly enjoyed both sound and light shows although the Marina by the Bay production is so good.

A taxi from the Casino back to our resort after another wonderful day.

20th October, 2017. Melbourne to Singapore - Transfer to So Sofitel

Gavin picked us up at 7.00am for our drive to Melbourne Airport.  You never know as to the traffic but some 50 minutes later we were dropped off at the International departure terminal entrance and we were there some 20 minutes prior to check in opening.

Jeanette was the first person into the checkin process and some 20 minutes later we were through security, immigration and Customs and all has worked well.  Jeanette went directly to the Singapore Airlines Kris lounge where we enjoyed breakfast.

Boarding commenced at 11.00am and we were in our comfortable seats in Business class 12d and 12e by 11.15am and enjoyed a glass of champagne to start our holiday.  The flight was excellent with a lovely 4 course meal and then we each slept for nearly 3 1/2 hours.  Ken had his full bed down but Jeanette only reclined hers.

Sinapore is one of our favourite Airlines but Changi is without doubt our favourite Airport.  We arrived and were through immigration in 15 minutes then received a message from our driver advising that he was on his way.  The flight had landed almost 20 minutes early, so we sat and waited for our driver.  He subsequently arrived all apologetic took us to wait whilst he fetched the new BMW 530 sedan.  Escorted us to the car , loaded our luggage and we were whisked into the boutique So Sofitel in Robinson Road.  .  This is a stunning modern Hotel in a classical French design.  It is a boutique type and we have a room king bed separate bathroom, dressing room and separate toilet.  We have 3 nights here prior to moving to the Sofitel Resort and Spa on Sentosa Island.

We are initially daunted by the stunning architecture and fit out of the room with a ceiling light box reflecting a gothic church roof style, albeit in a up market totally white hotel room.

Packing is a challenge with limited hangers and hanging space, but the room is comfortable and by 6.15pm we are unpacked and time to go upstairs to the pool and bar area.  For the first time we feel both the heat of 34 degrees and extreme humidity.  So after one drink we decide it is time to eat.  Next to the hotel a major street is closed off at 7.00pm nightly and transformed into a hawkers food market.  Our Blacklane driver had suggested Stall #6, which specialises in the best satay sticks.  We do decide to have chicken and beef satay sticks and you get 30 for 30 Singapore dollars.  You also purchase fried rice, boiled rice and drinks.  We have a sprite and Tiger beer .

There are many people in the 300-400 eating on our side of the stalls with probably another 500-600 further down the road .  This goes on every night and is fun to watch and then participate in.  We thoroughly enjoyed the whole”event”.

Back to The Hotel and we are asleep in no time.  Ken sleeps through the night until 6.45am.  Unfortunately, Jeanette doesn’t sleep as well.

It has been a very good first day.  All has worked well.

26 and 27 October - Singapore then flight to Istanbul and Prague

We have had an enjoyable time in Singapore but the time has come to Transfer to ChangimAirport and stay in a Transit Hotel before flying via Singapore Airlines tomIstanbul and then to Prague with Turkish Airlines.

Following breakfast we packed the cases, but have a change of gear for after we sleep at the Transit Hotel at Changi International, Terminal 3.  Our Blacklane driver will pick us up at 3.00pm.

Ken has visited the beautiful Singapore Golf Club here on Sentosa.  It is a remarkable set up with fairways like manicured carpet and greens near perfect.   Hope you enjoy the photos.

28 and 29th October 2017. Flight Singapore to Istanbul then to Prague and Check in Prague Hilton.

Our time in Singapore has passed quickly and it is now time to move on.  Our Blacklane car arrives at 3.00pm and we are taken quickly to Changi International Airport , terminal 3 where we check in at The Singapore Airlines early checkin, and our luggage disappears and is sent through to Prague.

We then find the Ambassador Transit Hotel, near the orchid garden, after completing immigration and customs.  This is a transit hotel where we have booked  a 7 hour block.  It is clean, convenient and we then sleep from 4.30pm until 10.30pm, then shower and then go to the Singapore SilverKris lounge, where we have a meal at 11.15pm.  As you will understand our body clocks are all over the place and it will only get worse over the next 2 days.

Our flight from Singapore to Istanbul is SQ392 due to depart at 1.45am so we have a little time spare following our meal.  Boarding commenced at 1.05am and we were in seats 12 C and E in the middle.  It is comfortable, but Ken is greeted by a glass of champagne accidentally dropped on home, but he changes his shirt, puts on a tee shirt and the steward cleans the shirt and it dries over our 10 hour 45 minutes flight.  We are delayed in departing by air traffic control for 20 minutes and despite their best endeavours we arrive in Idtanbul some 50 minutes late having faced strong headwinds of over 200km per hour for over 7 hours.  Jeanette and Ken both sleep for 6 hours plus in comfortable beds.

Arrival in Istanbul goes smoothly although after their recent security issues, we face an additional security and scan at the transfer area.  Then we go to the Turkish Airlines Gold Business Class Lounge, which is a unique experience, in world travel.  It has all sorts of seating and eating areas, a theatre, bowling alley, children’s entertainment cave, and every food and drink you can imagine,

We have a 4 hour stopover, but given our delay and additional check it is really only 2 1/2 hours.  But nonetheless a totally different experience and we sit near a full wall of large screen where Ken watches EPL.   Turkish Airlines flight 1771 from Istanbul to Prague departs on time.  Business class only has 10 people from a potential number of 20 and we receive excellent service and an enjoyable meal.

Landing is smooth although we are advised of strong winds and cold blustery conditions with a temperature of 13 degrees Celsius.  Totally different to Singapore.

We are through Immigration in 10 minutes, we are pleased to see our luggage on the carousel after its trip via Istanbul, then we meet our Blacklane driver who escorts us to his Mercedes 350E.  We are comfortably into Prague in 25 minutes and it is indeed cold and blustery.

Hilton Prague is a large bustling busy hotel and checkin is slower than expected even for Hilton Honors a Gold members.  Our room is comfortable but very much older style.  We unpack then go to the ExecutiveFloorsPrague where we have a drink and snacks.

We return to our room, Ken goes for a brief walk, Jeanette has everything sorted.  Ken calls the tour company and confirms our pick up for tomorrow and we work out where the concert is tomorrow evening.  Then into bed at 7.00pm and we sleep until 3.30am, when Ken got up to do this note.  It is too early, but we are both wide awake.

29th and 30th October 2017 - Walking Tour of beautiful Prague and then concert at Spanish Synagogue.

We awoke very early as our body clocks haven’t adjusted, got up but after an hour went back to bed and slept for 2 1/2 hours until 7.45am.  Then breakfast in Hilton Executive Lounge on 8th floor.  Unfortunately, the morning is very wet and the wind is blowing at gale force, so definitely a day for coats and umbrellas.

We were picked up by Francis and escorted to a small limo bus, where we were out of the wind and rain. We were taken to several hotels before being transferred to the Grayline ticket booth in the centre of the city.  Our tour guide Tatiana, then joined our group and explained our lengthy itinerary before we commenced our drive for a Our an hour through the central city area of the old then the new city, before we began the steep climb out of the city to the Castle.

It is hard to describe the unbelievable weather with heavy storm like showers and wind gusting to 90-100 km per hour and it was bitterly cold.

But the 14 hardy souls and our guide agreed to have a great day.  The first hour was a drive through the downtown areas of old and new Prague admiring the glorious architecture, stunning colours and beautiful buildings.  You are reminded of the splendour of Vienna but with a classical approach to superb design as well as the preservation of the wonderful buildings which ar3 centuries old. The photos probably do not do justice to just how beautiful the preserved buildings are.

From here we cross the Vltava River and then begin our climb up t9 the historic Prague Castle area. Here we visit WC and then begin our walk through the beautiful grounds and after about 20 minutes we arrive expecting to watch the changing of the guard.  However, with this dangerous weather all changing of the guard ceremonies have been cancelled for the day. But that is only a minor set back, and we walk through the castle grounds taking photos and listening to the multiple stories of the history over 1300years.

Lunch is at a restaurant beside the Castle and we enjoy a local lunch of chicken and salad followed by profiteroles and a glass of red wine and coffee.

We finish lunch , proceed back into the Castle grounds expecting to visit several rooms as well as the fountain and church.  Fortunately, we are inside the security check point and go through several areas, before being notified that the Castle is being closed for the day due to safety concerns.

A change of plans follows as we walk down the 150 steps from the Castle precinct into the old town area.  The rain has become torrential and several of our group decide to depart and return to Hotels whilst the weather is at its worst.

We continue on, but after 35 minutes, the weather begins to improve and as we walk through several areas and visit John Lennon’s Wall, there is sunshine.  We continue and visit a stunning Catholic Church, then 2 amazingly beautiful Synagogues before we walk back towards the famous Charles Bridge.  Again the weather has cleared and we have beautiful sunshine and blue skies.  We walk across this bridge which embraces much of the rich history of the city.  We are fascinated by Tatiana’s many stories and her detailed explanations.  We take many photos.  At the old town end we exit the bridge past the Powder tower and enter an area under the bridge where we commence our short 20 minute boat rise on the river, where we pass by many landmark buildings, then come close to the weir where the river rises and is held as part of the flood mitigation processes.

We enjoy this respite from the weather and particularly the wind, but as we alight and commence our walk back to the City Square, there are signs of yet another storm approaching.  It has been a long hard day, but totally enjoyable.

We decide to say goodbye to the group, just as torrential rain returns and we have about a 10 minute walk to the Spanish Synagogue, where we are scheduled to attend a concert involving Bolero and Evita, but the music played by a small string group and a wonderful soprano.  We thoroughly enjoyed this hour long concert  .  We get some 500 metres but the rain is just too heavy.  We seek refuge in a restaurant but we are advised that it will be 20 minutes for a table.  We accept this.

Jeanette ordered a hot drink, Ken red wine and we sat and talked with an American couple from Boston.

We left at 17.10pm and entered the Spanish Synagogue which is a stunningly beautiful building.  The photos are indicative but don’t really do the opulent splendour real justice.

Following our enjoyable concert we leave and catch a taxi back to Hilton Prague then enjoy snacks in the Executive lounge.

It has been a spectacular day, albeit challenging with the terrible weather.   Then we both fell into bed exhausted but exhilarated.

We woke at 3.45pm as our body clocks had still not adjusted.  But following a 45 minute period we returned and slept well until 7.15am.  At this time we see a glimmer of sunshine.

Breakfast is in the Executive lounge on 8th floor of Hilton Prague, where we enjoy a hearty breakfast.

The weather remains dodgy, but we decide to wait in the hotel for an hour, before we walk to the city square following walking through the square where the Republica MRT station is located.  At the station area we walk through various small stores where there is delicious food offerings.

Following this we then walk to the famous city square, where we take in amazing scenes of architecture, various important churches as well as various stores.  This is an impressive square.

Thevweather has improved, the sun is shining and the wind has diminished.

As we walk the stunning streets and squares, we decide to ride the “Ecoexpress” a small tourist train.

Our journey and drive begins on Old Town Square and this Square is just a brilliant historical perspective of this historical square.  We then pass through the area of the former Jewish ghetto down to the Vitava River and then drive across the Svatopluk Czech Bridgeand drive to enter th3 Lesser Town of Prague on the left bank .

The train then takes us through th3 charming narrow streets to the Lesser Town Square and then climb up the narrow steep streets by the steep Neruda Street, part of the historical ancient “Royal route”.

During this drive up to the Castle we are shown the the Capuchin monastery with the famous Loretto shrine, and make a stop on Castle Square.

Subsequent to the stop at th3 Castle we pass through several romantic laneways of the picturesque New World, past the Renaissance summer residence of Queen Anne and then return to the Lesser Town.

We then returned across the art nouveau Svatopluk Czech Bridge, we came to Parizska Avenue, passing on the right side one of the oldest Jewish Synagogues In Central Europe.  We return to Old Town Square after a terrific 65 minutes.

Lunch is calling, we are both cold and starving.  We stop at Kings Court Brasserie where we enjoy a lunch of soup and sandwiches.  We have hot drinks but we are very cold and tired.

Then we walk back to the Hilton Prague having enjoyed 2 wonderful days in this stunning city.  There are 1.25million citizens here and they have 8 million plus tourists per year.  We can understand why this is a stunning beautiful city, with great historical importance.

These are a cake mixture often with chocolate interiors which are cooked over coals.  We really enjoyed the sugar coated desert.

31st October 2017 - Travel Prague to Rome and accommodation at A.Roma Lifestyle Hotel.

We woke to a significantly improved day although it was still cold, but the gale force winds have diminished.

Following a terrific breakfast in the 8th floor Executive lounge, we returned to pack and then to be ready for our Blacklane driver to take us to Terminal 2 at Prague International Airport.  He was ready and had got through the substantially increased security due to the IOC conference at Hilton, Prague.

Our flight on Alitalia 513 was fine we were in seats 6A and 6B.

We arrived a little late but collected our luggage and we were greeted by our Blacklane driver holding a sign with our name.  The trip to the hotel took a quick 25 minutes.  We were checked in very quickly.

Our room / junior suite is 1232 and is very comfortable.  This is an outstanding new 5 star hotel.  We were then unable to book for dinner tonight in the in-house up market specialty restaurant as it was totally booked out.

So we are eating at a local restaurant, recommended by the Concierge.

Ken took his laundry to a local dry cleaners and laundromat, and he then had to negotiate as the the cost.  In the end we negotiated at Euro 21 for7 shirts, all ironed and folded following being washed.

Tomorrow we plan a day riding the hop on hop off bus around Rome, stopping at the Coloseum and the Forum.

We have had a relaxed but tiring travel day.  All arrangements worked well and we are very pleased with the hotel.

Dinner in a very pleasant local trattoria.

We both slept well after an East but tiring day ttavelling.  Last night we enjoyed a meal at HostariaLuce  in Via Della Luce 44 Trastevere-Roma, some 5 minutes walk from ARoma Lifestyle Hotel.

We have awoken to a perfect morning with not a cloud in the sky.

The view from the Sky Bar on 3rd floor, but we are only 7 km from the hustle and bustle of downtown.  There is a shuttle on the hour to and from Otovianna Station area.   We took the shuttle and we were dropped off near the Vatican City about 15 minutes later, but unbeknown to us the Rome Marathon was being run.  So we had a long walk past the Vatican City to get to stop 6.  We then enjoyed the next 3 stops before we concluded this first leg with a 15 minute stopover at the Terminal A, before doing another full round which took some 100 minutes.

Our comfortable king bed.  Have we needed this after all the walking.

We caught the shuttle downtown about 15 minutes drive to the external wall of the Vatican City.

From here we rode the Hop on Hop off bus and took in all of the wonderful tourist sites.

We comenced having walked from the Vatican City to stop number 6 .  But given there was also the Roman Marathon, it was absolutely chaos, even more than usual.  We walked passed the Castle of St. Angelo and then across the bridge to Stop 6.  We rode the bus for one whole lap with an extensive break at the terminal A.    From here we travelled in the general area of Trevi Fountian, aligh ed the bus and walked 15 minutes to the fountain, which looks fantastic.  We took photos before stopping at a restaurant for a Panini and beer. Expensive but good.  Stop 8 is Piazza  Barbarini, where we also alight and walk through the area.  We then got on and walked through the Coloseum area, still amazing, but hordes of people.  We also drove past Circus Maximus, still just a grass area.

We then visited the Forum took in th3 amazing relics, then drove passed the Wedding Cake and Gariboldi’s home.  This is all amazing.

We did almost 2 circuits of the Red Hop on Hop off bus route.  The history, many cathedrals and churches is just amazing.

Our pick up time is 5.00pm, but we arrive some 40 minutes early, but we are 200 metres away from the correct location and are forced to then take an alternate route and pick up a cab. We arrive back ahead of the bus and explain but to no avail.  We have enjoyed a fantastic day in Rome.
