Visit to Yarrawonga and Mulwala Country Club - Golf and Lunch.
We drove from our unit here in Numurkah the 44 minutes to Yarrawonga, which has been a favourite country town over approximately 25 years.
Ken had booked 9 holes of golf on the Executive course, one of the 3 Courses in this 45 Hole complex , with the other two being Murray and Lakes courses.
Jeanette occupies herself around the resort and the club house. We are surprised as we enter Yarrawonga as to how high the Lake Mulwala is. We have seen this expanse of Water many times over the years but never witnessed the height of the Lake and the Weir flood-gates are wide open.
This is a pretty township with Yarrawonga on the Victorian side and the smaller Mulwala on the New South Wales side.
The weather remains just perfect with temperatures of 25-28 degrees Celsius, although there is a forecast for Thunderstorms and heavy rainfall late in the afternoon.
Ken enjoys his golf and plays well with 43 strokes for the nine holes. He said he didn’t play as well and made a bit of a mess on one hole, but still very enjoyable. He is finished in one hour and 45 minutes . So we go to the Cafe and order an enjoyable lunch . We enjoy the Yarrawonga Mulwala Country Club, it is a very active place with both strong golf and bowls clubs as well as a large restaurant, cafe and a small theatre. They also have al argue herd of Kangaroos on an adjoining farm area. Always interesting to watch them.
Jeanette suggests that we have a short drive through the busy rural township, get our bearings and then exit the town and begin to make our way back to Numurkah just as clouds begins to develop and the forecast of Storms and Rainfall looks to be progressing. As we depart the Yarrawonga area, we experience a short , sharp storm with both thunder and lightning. Jeanette drives well and we take 44 minutes to arrive back in Numurkah and certainly ahead of the developing storm clouds. Little did we realise that there would be far greater storm activity later in the afternoon at about 5.45pm
Ken decides to have a lengthy nap and enjoys his sleep. It is about 4.30pm when he awakes and changes into his swimming gear then departs our unit and walks to the pool area, just as light rain begins to increase from a few spots to heavier rainfall.
However, this intensifies into a real Heat storm of Thunder and lightning with heavier rainfall of tropical proportions. This last for the next 2 hours. Even the swans on the lake seek cover on the waters edge under trees which provide a canopy of cover from the extreme rainfall.
Dinner in tonight with cheeses and biscuits and vanilla slices to finish.
We have enjoyed a lovely day. Tomorrow we return to Yarrawonga and have booked and planned lunch with our friend Peter at a local restaurant , cafe called The Naked Tree. It will be lovely to see Peter and catch up before Christmas.
We had an enjoyable morning and early afternoon at Yarrawonga and Mulwala Country club. Ken played 9 holes of golf on the Executive course and then we enjoyed lunch at the Cafe. all very enjoyable.
Earlier whilst playing golf at the back of the Course there was a paddock of unused farm land with quite a number of kangaroos. Couldn’t help himself had to take photos.
We drove a cross the bridge from Yarrawonga to Mulwala and couldn’t believe the height of Lake Mulwala and the Weir had its flood gates fully open releasing water into the Murray. Quite unbelievable, we have visited this township many times over the last 30 plus years and have never seen this amount of water.
A perfect morning turned into a wet and very threatening afternoon of thunderstorms with lightning and thunder and extremely heavy almost tropical rainfall
