Cape Grace Hotel on Cape Town’s V and A Waterfront.
We were dropped off at the Cape Grace Hotel and from the moment you enter the ground floor reception area , you realise that this is a beautiful stunning hotel located in the V & A Waterfront.
We enter and are seated to sign in , and informed that we have been upgraded to a King Deluxe Suite and tomorrow morning you will observe the Table Top Mountain from our balcony overlooking the boat harbour.
We are tired after the day in Port Elizabeth and the flight to Cape Town followed by the chauffeured drive into the city. ( about 30 minutes).
The Hotel is superbly decorated, has significant complementary reviews and service standards which are impeccable. It feels special in every way. Yes somewhat traditional but with an eloquent presentation of quality and high end service in all areas.
We are booked for 3 nights here in Cape Town intending to eat in on the Third night to celebrate our 50th Wedding Anniversary in the prized Signals restaurant.
Tonight we are tired and unpack just enough, then turn in for a good night’s sleep. We both sleep well and awake to a morning which is heavily overcast with cloud and a light drizzly rainfall.. We do attempt to look out and observe Table top Mountain. However, with the heavy cloud cover there is nothing to see. The Mountain is totally covered by cloud.
Following breakfast in Signals restaurant, we return to our suite and fully unpack appreciating the need to restructure our bags before we depart from Cape Town.
Jeanette and I have previously ridden the hop -on hop off bus routes and decide that for our first day we will spend time around the port area.
Ken decides to go out for a long walk over two hours taking in the many sights, the waterfront areas, the groups signing and the band playing.
This is great entertainment, then he sits and has morning tea.
We decide against lunch, after a large breakfast and then go out and about.
We book dinner through the Hotel at a top fish restaurant in the V & A Waterfront area. It is about 10 minutes walk from the Hotel. We experience aqn excellent evening and then walk back though the Shopping Centre and Mall at about 9.30pm.
Ken watches some sport on television including some AFL. Then we turn in after editing and deleting many photos.
Jeanette hasn’t slept well, but experiences a very good night’s sleep.
We are feeling excited to have completed an excellent first week away in South Africa and all has worked our well.
The Hotel is simply stunning with the quality of the furnishings, the excellent staff and the overall feel.
We wake to morning with the light being brighter but still some drizzle. But mid morning the clouds clear and we have a wonderful view of Table Top Mountain and surrounds.
Dinner tonight in Signals restaurant after we celebrated with a glass of champagne. Dinner is superb in every way and Ken enjoys a top draw Cab Savignon. We are having our desserts and we are conscious of the “Load Shedding” and that the hotel’s generator will cut in.
The time comes, the generator cuts in and then after 30 seconds we are plunged into darkness with many candles being lit, phone lights being initiated as we are advised that the generator has failed. Subsequently, we are informed that the generator has burned out, they cannot do anything , apart from get us to our rooms via stairs and Torches , until the power returns after 10.00pm.
We are helped to the stairs and walk up the 3 floors. A disappointing end to a special night. We subsequently find that they were still recovering the following morning. A night to remember.
