We again have a morning with overcast skies, but the threatened morning showers and heavy falls of rainfall, fail to materialise and we are blessed with almost perfect conditions to leave the ship and explore the city.
Following breakfast we grab hats and umbrellas in case of rain, depart the ship and walk the 5-10 minutes into the centre of the city, take photos of the wonderful sandstone buildings and re-familiarise ourselves with the city.
Jeanette and Ken decided not to do a tour outside Hobart but to walk leisurely through the city, take photos, enjoy a relaxed coffee and generally take in this city.
That was a very good decision as we have several hours prior to a need to get back on board Majestic Princess.
We walked leisurely through Hobart. visited the Cathedral of St David, walked through the Elizabeth Mall, took in the park-lands, walked back to the Harbour and Salamanda Street, (where there were no market activities-as it was Friday) then through the beautiful gardens of Parliament house and Government house before returning to the Ship along the foreshore.
It is a vibrant but small city, with staggering waterfront properties and views over the magnificent Derwent River. We were surprised that there were no special market or tourist sales areas set up for the visit of the Majestic Princess as an additional 3,000 people all with money to spend would appear to be a striking commercial opportunity..
Mt Wellington sits above overlooking the City and the river and it is quite a peaceful environment without the size and bustle and business of other cities such as Sydney and Melbourne. There were many guests travelling upon excursions to Mt Wellington, Fort Arthur and Richmond.
We had enjoyed an enjoyable day, visiting walking slowly and appreciating the .environment of our Southern neighbour state and its capital city. Fortunately, the planned rainfall didn’t arrive until several hours later following the ship’s departure from Hobart and when we were transiting the Derwent River.
Following this we had drinks in one of the Bars, then enjoyed some music, watched several groups dancing, before enjoying dinner in one of the dining rooms. We had enjoyable company.. Jeanette decided to miss tonight’s show which was a singer comedian from Sydney, although originally from England. Very good entertainment and had a terrific voice. His time of almost 50 minutes passed by very quickly. Ken them watched some of the Karioche.
Ken returned to our Suite at about 11.00 pm.
Tomorrow is another Sea Day before our return to Melbourne the following morning. In many respects it is too short, but we have seen and enjoyed enough to realise we can and will still enjoy the varied activities and broader entertainment of the larger ships, such as those of Princess.
We are tired and sleep very well. We enjoyed our days in Sydney and then the smaller Hobart.. The ship is quite stunning in its decorations, presentaions and the style of entertainment.
