Unbelievable Desert Experiences - Morning and Night - in the Namib Desert
This reflects the excursions we did over the first 2 days in the Namib Desert. A unique place on earth and with different perspectives of morning and evening.
After our arrival at 4.30pm , when it has cooled down a bit, we depart for a two hour drive out into the desert in close proximity to the Resort and Camp.
We spend about an hour driving, he explains how grasses grow and survive in this harsh environment, we discuss the animals and their survival. We discuss the threats etc. There are Leopards here but they restrict to the hills. There are a variety of other predators including several around the Lodge.
He then turns into a dune area and proceeds to set up Sundowners to catch the sunset.
It is another unimaginable experience and we eventually return to our Lodge for dinner at 7.15pm.
Dinn Re is served out on the Balcony overlooking the infinity pool. We enjoy a beautiful meal with lovely wines. We return to our lodge #2 at 9.45pm after aqn extraordinary day. The resort is just unbelievable, the excursion interesting and totally different to what we have accessed over the last 3 weeks. Unique, environmentally challenging, nature at her most defining and the history of 5-6 million years is apparent.
Following yesterday’s arrival at this beautiful and unique resort, we woke to an early morning wake up call of 5.30am , then presented at 6.00am for a light breakfast as the morning sun roles.
We then drove almost 60 kilometres through the desert out of the Park and then drove a further 80 kilometres along the major road into the Sossusvlei National Park , which is a development in the soft sand along river beds, where the Land Cruiser needs to be in four wheel drive for the 30 kilometres we are inside the park as we traverse the Dunes. There hadn’t been a drop of rainfall in over 2-3 years, since major floods in early 2020. Everything is brutally dry.
Jeanette and Ken decide they are not up to the walking of the Sand dunes which can and do take other guests walking through treacherous sand dunes. We seek Big Mumma and Big Daddy which are the biggest climbs.
However, we stop for a breakfast in the Desert at a park setting with tables where Mario , our guide, serves a beautiful breakfast whilst we take in the stand hills, the climbers and thoroughly enjoy our selves.
