Drive from Wheelers Hill to Numurkah, Central Victoria.
We left home at about 8.30am on a very pleasant Spring morning for the trip North to Shepparton and then to Numurkah. We were both excited to be going away to relax and enjoy the warmth of the Central Victoria area. But we have a longer drive then usual due to the extensive roadworks around the Greensborough area as tunneling works continue for the North East freeway.
Without going into detail there is significant roadworks and stopping and starting for about 45 minutes .
Post this Jeanette enjoys the drive on good freeways up the Hume and then across on the Goulburn Valley freeway.
It is a picturesque journey and we remain surprised that all of the dams are full of water and wherever we come into Grain and Crop country the crops look superb.
Jeanette e decides that we will drive through without any stop. It has taken us longer then expected due to those delays in departing Melbourne through heavy roadworks.
We reach the Country town of Numurkah a small township of 5,300 at about 11.30am after a reasonably quick trip, after the initial delays.
Our accommodation at Lakeside Counrty Club is on the edge of the Lake. We check in at 11.45am , then unpack our gear, leaving the golf clubs in the car.
It is a very comfortable one bedroom unit with Master Bedroom and ensuite, then a lounge and dining / kitchen area and separate laundry.
Outside there is a covered patio area overlooking the lake and Jeanette is delighted to see the 5 Black Swans swimming across the lake area. There is also another large white bird just outside our villa.
We have lunch of Salad rolls and fruit .
The afternoon was spent visiting the Golf club, for a drink and to book golf. there a drive through the town to find Ritchie’s IGA supermarket and there is a butcher next door.
We have pork , salad and potatoes and conclude that itv has been a very enjoyable day. Tomorrow Ken has golf for 9 holes, then after lunch we are chasing Solo Art.
The accommodation is clean and very comfortable, the grounds are well maintained and the 54 vUnits/ villas of varying sizes from 1 bedroom to 3 bedrooms are ideal.
We also hope to catch up with Peter Bateman in Yarrawonga and will telephone him to arrange on Monday morning as he has a function in Wodonga over the weekend.
These photos from our car reflect the perfect day and the glorious crops and conditions on our way from home to Numurkah. Just a superb start t our week away in this area often referred to as the grain and food bowl of Victoria.
