I am writing this update following 4 days of inclement weather with storms North of the Gold Coast and flooding in many areas about Brisbane and the hinterland after another”rain bomb” climate episode created havoc. The annual rainfall for the Gold Coast is 1330 mm and in mid May we have an annual total of 1310mm and people are saying there has been no summer and no autumn.
Sunday it was a wet day , but after heavy rainfall and storms on Saturday, we have endured a day of almost non stop drizzle and with humidity of some 85%. Very uncomfortable.
Ken has booked for AFL at Metricon Stadium at Carrara to watch Gold Coast play the fancied Fremantle.
More on that later.
Ken drove down to Point Danger and took photos. this is near the border of New South Wales and Queensland and there is significant beach erosion following the storms and rough seas.
We had planned to shop, then watch our GWUC Church service via live streaming, then have a morning tea of coffee etc. That worked okay. Then an early lunch of rolls and wraps together with fruit then at about 12.10pm Ken left to drive to Carrara and thoroughly enjoyed the football. He paid for parking in carpark Blue a very wise decision. got to the ground in fine drizzle and enjoyed a tough match where the football was like a cake of soa. Unexpected toy, the Gold Coast Suns won a tough contest quite convincingly by almost 8 goals. Ken left at the 15 minute mark of the last quarter in light drizzle after the very consistent heavy drizzle subsided for almost 20 min utes. Drive back to Coolangatta was slow and challenging with road works still delaying traffic.
So following this drive and walk along the rocks and pathway at the top of Point Danger, he drove back to Coolangatta. Had morning tea.
Than an early lunch and Ken departed at 12.15pm for the 35 minute to Metricon Stadium and looking forward to a good game.
Parked well in the Blue Car Park and walked across to the ground in light drizzle, but expecting it to get much heavier.
Was seated high up in Row J seat 242 on bat 211. almost middle of the ground and ideal. There were about 7-8,000 in attendance. A surprising large contingent of Fremantle supporters. Then watched an absorbing game of tough foot wall and after a tight first quarter Gold Coast got on top and won by approx 8 goals. A terrific team effort.
Then back to Coolangatta in heavy traffic for most of the way. There is still significant roadworks with the widening between the Burleigh Heads exit and Tugan areas.
Then to decide on dinner after watching the first half of our Demons vs West Coast from Perth and Optus Oval.
Jeanette wanted to have Souvalaki. So we went to the Greek restaurant and picked up Souvalaki and it was just superb. The forecast is for some improvement on Monday then a couple of days of drying out.
Then watched the Melbourne vs West Coast and the Dees ran out easy winners. Once of our young future stars was reported for a rough tackle and will likely receive a 2 weeks suspension. another player pulled a hamstring.
So despite the weather we have made the most of a horrible day and enjoyed the AFL football. Later watched a really of a political interview with our Prime Minister, then went to bed. Remained calm didn’t throw anything at my iPad!!!
After a good night’s sleep woke to a near perfect morning. Following breakfast Ken walked around to Rainbow Bay, then collected Jeanette and we went to the Strand for morning coffee.
Following lunch Ken walked from Coolangatta to Kirra and then had a coffee at the Surf club on his return. During this time another front passed through but with clouds a wind change but no rainfall.
Dinner in to night and hopefully golf tomorrow at Coolangatta Tweeds Golf club perhaps on the river course as the West may sytill be too wet, having been closed over the wet weekend.
