Travel from Hilton Head and fly to New Jersey with Accommodation at Marriott Fairways Resort , Galloway.
The night passes quickly and Ken awakes at 4.48am ahead of the 5.00am alarm. We process our completion of packing following showering. No breakfast , but we hope there will be something on the American airways flights given we are flying first class.
We drive the 45 minutes to Savannah, stopping some 2 miles before the airport to fill up the “gas” tank. We then drive into the Car Rental Return and Alamo is easily located. We complete the sign off and paperwork prior to 7.00am and are thankful that this little blue Toyota Corolla has served us really well.
We then walk with our luggage to the terminal. This is a smaller terminal/ airport and we are checked in within 10 minutes of arrival in the Departure Hall and with ticketing complete. We make our way through security to gate 8 and we have a wait of 50 minutes before we begin to board. This has all gone well.
We are seated in 1B and IC and we have a slight issue with the small case as there is little room in the overhead cabinet/ lockers, so we are requested to check the bag/ case in at the reception and it then be available at luggage carousel 18 in Philadelphia. Jeanette and Ken are a little nervous.
We experience a very easy and enjoyable flight with total time of the flight being 1 hour and 20 minutes (including 42 minutes in the air) including a lengthy wait to takeoff. The Bombadeer small Jet aircraft is comfortable and the flight is smooth. We land a little early and depart the plane some 10 minutes ahead of schedule. We have to make our way from the E Gates to the C Gates and ours was C18. This is a big airport with thousands of people at every terminal and insufficient seating in the waiting areas. Our transit is 90 minutes approximately, we have an initial 14 minutes from the E Gates to the Central podium area before we then make our way to the C Gates and Gate C14 for our flight AA2817 from CLT (Charlotte to PHL (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania)..
Our luggage was due to come to carousel 18 and this process took almost 20 minutes, but the 2 large cases and the smaller silver cases all arrived close together. So a sense of relief. We then take the Dollar Shuttle to the dollar Car Rental place. this should have been easy but we experienced some real challenges with an unhelpful customer service person. We had paid a separate company (a broker) for the rental and we just expected too pay the remaining balance of US$93, but that didn’t work, there were no smaller cars and we were forced to avail of an upgrade to a larger vehicle, plus a variety of add ons which included a range of additional add ons.
We ended up with a Nissan Altima, almost brand new. We got talked into this plus an arrange of additional items such as toll fees at US$25 per day, a variety of other taxes and charges. We felt we were used. The car rental became quite expensive, but we needed this.
We then got into the Altima , which is very comfortable reset our GPS Tom Tom Go 20 and it showed that our drive to New Jersey and Galloway was about 58 minutes. We exited the airport remarkably easily got onto a freeway and then headed towards Galloway. It was an easy drive for Ken although we encountered some almost suicidal driving with people wanting to pass at 8B plus miles per hour. We turned off the freeway and got onto th N9 and had a drive of several miles before we turned in to the Marriott Fairways Resort, only to find that our rooms were not ready and were unlikely to be available until 5.00pm.
As a consequence we had close to 50 minutes to fill in ,and we decided to find a Supermarket (named Shop Right) about 2 miles away. We purchase our goods and then returned to the Marriott and checked in to our villa 1110. Very comfortable, older in style.
We had enjoyed a day transferring from Bluewater, Hilton Head Island to Marriott Fairways Resort in Galloway , New Jersey via 2 flights with American airways and then about 75 minute drive from Philadelphia to Galloway vin New Jersey.
Marriott Fairway Villas are an older style Marriott resort, and we are delighted. It has everything you need. We are on ground floor 1110 with 2 bedrooms/ 2 bathrooms lounge, kitchen and full washing and drying facilities. The resort is located next to the Dolce Seaview Resort which has two golf Courses designed by Toovey and Flynn, highly noted golf architects. The Pines course carves int othe one filled woodlands. It is simply a spectacular course. The Bay course is more open and has several water views across to Atlantic city. Ken will play the Pijes on Thursday afternoon.
This afternoon we are out to purchase the balance of our grocery and food needs. Jeanette is preparing a dinner tonight.
Tomorrow we will spend the day at Atlantic city New Jersey, which is about a 20 minute drive.
Later today Kenb will organise transport to take us into New York City on Wednesday .
Thursday we have lunch planned with Wendy and Peter.
Friday will be ours to do things locally before we pack for the drive on early Saturday morning to JFK, New York to drop off the car. We then fly to Iceland for a four day break with several tours before we board the Oceania Sirena for a 15 night cruise.
