Our Day in Windsor - Royalty on Display.
The whole process of living in England during the funeral procession and subsequent Royal and government activities has proven a real challenge with many roads seemingly endlessly closed off for significant periods and in some cases for days.
Despite all of the pressures from the funeral and other royal issues in Oxford and Windsor, we decided to drive to Windsor for the day with the aim of taking photos of the Castle. It is some 20 years since we visited this area, whilst we lived in Esher and we subsequently caught a train from London on one of our other visits.
It was about an hour’s drive along excellent roads and freeways. We drive directly to a Car par k on the City outskirts and had a 5-minute walk up to the High Street and near the Castle.
We parked in car park and then walked up the hill some 200 metres to the Main High Street of Windsor. It was a perfect day but there remained some barricades around the perimeter. So as we have found over the last two weeks accessing public areas has proven a challenge.
However, we were able to take photos and it was exciting to see a Balck SUV arrive at the Guild Hall with Prince William and Kate. Great, but unfortunately we were on the wrong side of the vehicle so only got their backs and heads in photos. Then walked down the street took photos and enjoyed it all.
We enjoyed our 3 hours in this beautiful town and yes we especially enjoyed what pageantry we saw. Particularly as Jeanette is really into all of that activity.
From here we were to drive to find a Pub for lunch.
So we decided to leave Windsor and find a Pub and we drove some 20 minutes to a Pub in Harlow called the “George and Anchor” where we enjoyed a lovely meal. We had tried to have lunch at the Macdonald Resort called “The Complete and Anchor” beside the river. But we hadn’t made a booking etc. Anyway, this proved an excellent option.
We then drove home to our place in Oxford with a meal internal this evening and tomorrow we drive from Oxford to London Heathrow Airport after a stop at our former home in Esher and the Boys school at “Claremont Fan Court” in Esher.
Following a rest Ken decides to take a walk back into the main street of Oxford.
