Day 2 at Tuningi Safari Lodge, Madikwe, South Africa.

We awake to a wake up call, but Ken is still asleep and slow to react. We stumble out of bed, wish each other well as to our wedding anniversary, then quickly get changed and dressed for the morning game drive. It is 5.45am when we depart our suite and head down to reception.

We depart and another couple from Holland have joined our vehicle. We make our way down the drive and come across a family of elephants and thoroughly enjoy this forest area and their eating acacia for approximately 15 minutes, before we readily identify Rhinnos and stay to watch them for some 15 minutes. We drive past many zebras and other animals and it is shortly thereafter that Martin says there has been a sighting of the lion that we were attempting to track last evening.

Our drive takes us some 15 minutes past the zebras and buffalo who we decide to stay clear of. We again pass further elephants , before we are advised that there are 3 lions asleep on the roadway about 1 km away. We drive in that direction , passing many animals , so it is apparent that thr lions have been involved in a game incident and are now tired and full.

We reach the area to find that there are indeed 3 male lions all sound asleep on the middle of the roadway with several vehicles around then with anxious tourists all seeking to take photos. They do from time to time all raise their heads, but it is only momentary. They are too tired.

Wonderful photos and the king of the jungle is a wonderful animal.

From here we seek to track a cheetah who had been seen in these lower grasslands. That proves unsuccessful, but we see a variet of animals. Then back to camp for breakfast. After breakfast we also choose what we will have for lunch.

During breakfast there is a large group of elephants come across the property near the Safari lodge to drink water.

Ken then goes down to the “hide” which is a covered viewing area to watch the 20 plus elephants. He takes photos and videos.

Following an enjoyable breakfast we swap our anniversary Cards with lovely wordings and reflections on our married life together. We have been very blessed to be health, able to travel and still be together. this holiday is a wonderful celebration together.

Ken then showers in the outside shower area, comments that it is wonderful and hot with an excellent water flow, washes some underwear, we put out our laundry so everything will be clean again.

Then Ken departs our villa and leaves Jeanette to do her own thing.

He is writing up this diary, whilst Jeanette is adding to Facebook with photos and comments and many of our friends do respond.

It is 12.35pm and Ken is following the AQFL football and Max Gawn has done a knee, not a good day etc.

Now back to the lodge and our villa before lunch and then the afternoon drive, but just before finalising this daily update towards lunch , there is a roar from the nearby jungle behind the water hole and there is a lion there. I only see his back as he agin drinks and moves away into the bush and away from the watering hole.

Simply unbelievable!!!
