Trip home to Melbourne and More Silo Art- Simply Amazing.
We woke to mother near perfect morning, but there is a warning for a change with heavy rainfall for late morning early afternoon.
Our departure is delayed as the battery in Jeanette’s car has failed. Fortunately , there was a RACV technician from Bendigo working at Shepparton who was attending another vehicle in the Lakeside Country Club resort, we were told to catch him, then lodge a roadside assistance request and he will come asnd review our situation. He came advised the battery was over 6 years old and had apparently died. We agreed to a replacement on the spot, the serviceman had it on board and it was changed over inside 15 minutes at a cost of $416.
Jeanette drove out of the resort at 9.25am, almost 40 minutes behind our schedule. Our schedule took us back to Katamatite with the desire to eventually get back to Colbinnabin. however, the weather was quickly changing with dark clouds and heavy winds preceding the arrival of showers and heavy intermittent rainfall.
We drive through these showers and over a combination of highway and back roads.
The plan was to get to lunch at Hesathcorte and purchase food consisting of pies, pasties and sausage rolls at the well known Gaffney Bakery on the main street of Heathcote.
So we visited several areas to take photos of Grain Silos with a variety of art.
A challenging drive as we faced changing weather and inclement conditions.
We visited Kyabram and then Stanhope where we saw other Silo and painting works before we drove to Colbinabbin where we saw perhaps the most dynamic paintings.
The weather continued to deteriorate with a number of heavy showers. The various drives from each of these provided a variety of conditions.
The Drive through to Heathcote involved taking us through a growing wine region out the back of Heathcote and in the leeward ares of the Hills. We then traverse from Colbinabbin through to Heathcote with its many wine samples and vineyards as well as retail stores. We stop at Gaffney’s for food and soft drinks.
The weather has improved slightly, we finish the country part of our holiday and then heads down the northern highway and then to the Hume Freeway before Jeanette takes us back through the proposed Greesborough and North East link major road development. The scale of the construction is awe inspiring, the traffic delays are a nuisance but hopefully a big change in the freeway system linking the North East of Melbourne via the new major tunne.
We stop at Heathcote for the chance to have our lunch and visit toilets.
We then travel home through major traffic congestion.
We arrive home at 3.20pm after a long day of driving in difficult conditions.
Holiday Summary
We had a wonderful weak staying at Lakeside Country Club in Numurkah, but that provided a base for us to travel to Yarrawonga, catch up with Peter for lunch, visit several Silos and then for Ken to enjoy Golf .
The weather has been outstanding with clear blue skies for the first 5 days with temperatures from 28-33 Degrees Celsius. The preparation by Jeanette to plan great meals, a very good red by Ken and then excellent Cafe and coffee Shop visits made this short 7. Day holiday a time to remember.
The White bird was camped outside our unit in the long grass in the Lake.
The pitch by Ken at the 18th hole was unlucky not to go in for a birdie on a day where he had 42 Stableford points and played very well.
The other photos reflect the Fairways on 12th and 13th holes with towering gum tres and undulating fairways. The course was in good condition and an enjoyable challenge.
The last photo reflects a spectacular sunset on the Thursday evening.
We have enjoyed a great time together, found the accommodation older but comfortable and everything worked well.
We will return to Numurkah!!
