Atlantic City - Boardwalk and Noon Recital - A Great Day.
After a relatively quiet day yesterday around the Marriott Fairways Resort here in Galloway, we decided to travel the 20 minutes to Atlantic City and we enjoyed an outstanding day.
We departed Galloway at 9.50am and it took us some 20 minutes, including a missed turn to reach Atlantic city and we drove directly to Caesars Casino and parked the car (cost $15 per day) and then commenced our exploring by walking through this amazing Casino and out onto the Boardwalk and then walked along the Boardwalk away from the major Casino and entertainment area to the quieter locale. Ken took photos of the beach , where the tide was some 300 yards out to sea.
The Boardwalk runs about 4 and 1/2 miles and is a timber structure built upon the sand base. We take several photos. We walk about 1,000metres and enjoy the process but the fog and then smog create a weird environment. It is hot in mid 80;s but humidity has lowered.
Then at about 11.50am we enter the Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall , Atlantic City where the world’s largest pipe organ resides and there is a concert recital daily at 12.00pm. This is an amazing building seating 16,500 people and the pipe organ consists of 30,000 pipes. It is being restored to its former loving self with a great deal of care. It is a lengthy project with the spend amounting to US$16million and is at about the 55-60% completion.
We sit back and relax whilst today’s organist Andrew McKeon plays a recital / concert of about 30 minutes featuring a variety of beautiful music:
Elevation
Intermezzo
All I ask of you. (From Phantom of the Opera)
Pure Imagination
Every Step of the Way
You’ll never Walk Alone
The Lost Chord
Star-Spangled Banner.
It was a simply inspiring and uplifting performance with stunning sound from the amazing pipe organ.
The last item was the Star Spangled Banner and all rose from their seats Anthony hand over heart and listened to the stirring rendition. In its own way it was a highlight of the day.
After this thrilling performance we walked the 300 metres back to Caesars where we had a good lunch (too big) at Gordon Ramsay’s English Pub Bar and Grill, where we appreciated the seats, the food was excellent and the place simply a great luncheon venue.
Jeanette had a Dublin ( Rueben sandwich ) after we shared calamari and Ken had a Chicken BLT. Ken enjoyed a Peroni beer and we also enjoyed cold water.
The photos show the size of the meal.
Following the enjoyable lunch , Ken decided to ride one of the small bus type vehicles down the Boardwalk to the end , ie about 2.7 miles from Caesars and alight and take photos. The trolleys come very 2-3 minutes you hail them to stop and the cost is US$5 per one way or US$13 for an al day ticket.
In all honesty we had no idea of the size of the Boardwalk including the 4.5 mile length and the 20 metres width. It is quite amazing.
The following photos reflect some of what we saw.
The following photos are of the interior of Caesars Casino. I know a Casino but it is simply an excellent building and with a wide range of entertainment, shops and restaurants and eateries.
We finished our time at Atlantic City at about 3.45pm and went to the Colosseum Car Park / Garage, collected our vehicle and then drove 25 minutes home to Marriott Fairways and it was much easier than the morning drive.
Jeanette and Ken have enjoyed an exceptional day in Atlantic city.
The weather remained foggy / smoggy all day although it cleared at about 2.30pm and temperatures rose to high 80’s.
This was another place that we wanted to see and enjoy. It isn’t like Las Vegas , it has its own character, thre boardwalk is something special.
After returning to our villa 1110 , Ken decided to have a swim in the Adult pool. It rounded off a spectacular day.
Dinner tonight will be simple. A cool drink is the top priority.
