Heavy Overnight Rainfall across Madikwe and Drives.
We awake to hear heavy sustained rainfall on the roof and check of our Safari Suite. Our morning wake up call is delayed aqnd we revive a call at 6.30am advising that we will depart at 6.30am or certainly before 7.00am.
Martin advises that many animals will likely not be seen as they stay in the rink areas of the park which are impenetrable by vehicle.
We set out just before 7.00am and we certainly see less immediate numbers in close proximity to our Safari lodge and camp, but there are many jeeps and vehicles out and some are very wet and bedraggled after the continuous rainfall which has diminished to a heavy drizzle. We are advised that we have had over 20 mm of rainfall.
The Elephants are about and we watch them and the giraffes, and we are suddenly advised that there is one of the 3 male lions walking along the roadways some 1.5 km away. We take off hoping to see the lion , but alas he departs the road and heads into the thick forest areas.
We do see many zebras, some giraffe, plenty of elephants, some buffalo, several Rhinnos and plentiful antelope across our drive.
The drive is cut short, we return to the lodge enjoy a beautiful buffet breakfast. We then retire to our Safari lodge, shower and Ken has to update our Blacklane pick up for tomorrow early afternoon.
Jeanette came back cold and a bit shivery after being out in the weather. We are told that it will improve in the afternoon. WE will see, but the rain continues after breakfast. We continue to process our next travel items and update arrival details for Blacklane.
