4th July - American Independence Day and Golf at country Club of Hilton Head.
This morning gave us a spectacular early morning and beautiful sunrise. It is also the 4th of July and American Independence Day and a holiday for most people. Lots of bunting and decorations based on the American flag and the red, white and blue colours.
We did some shopping and then Ken played golf in the social event before the long night of celebrations at the Country Club.
It was a hot and very humid day despite it being a cloudless day.
Ken played good golf with 2 other gents from here . They were obviously wealthy, knew the 2 foursomes, that I played with on Tuesday. The course had dried out and carts were allowed onto the fairways. The Greens are just marvellous and so true.
Ken played solid golf on the 10th-18th with 21 Stableford points and 44 strokes. The second nine ( the front lnine) tougher today. Ken played well for the first 7 holes with 17 points before stumbling a little with two points coming from the 8th and 9th hole. But I would take 91 plus 40 Stableford points, but believe it was a round where I could have shot 87 and had 43 point.
Sense the heat of 92 degrees F and very high humidity of 88% just got to me. I hadn’t missed a fairway all day until the tough 17th and finished up in the longer second cut, some 4-5 feet from the fairway. The other two had sprayed the ball everywhere over the last 4 holes and we decided it was just too hot to go and have a drink. I was home by 4.40, so under 4 hours for the round and enjoyed it very much. It is a beautiful course.
A very successful outing at a cost of US$45 for the Car hire and US$60 for the set of Maverick Callaway club. This represents a cost saving of almost US$160 per round.
So a really good day, played a very good round of golf , although disappointed that’s I fell away on the back nine.
Handed in a score card of 90 strokes and 40 Stableford points, but really left 2 or 3 points out there in the final holes.
Have enjoyed our time here and the golf and the people I played with have been excellent.
4th July American Independence Day fireworks.
We were told that we would have a good vantage point to watch the many fireworks let off from a variety of sites. They started distantly from about 8.45pm and continued until almost 9.30pm. Simply a grea sight. The fireworks came in waves of banging and light flashes from a variety of sites. We watched for nearly half an hour and it was quite extraordinary to see the lit up sky from the many different locations.
The following photos reflect those fireworks from nearby.
