Sunday and Monday- Wet and Wild - Rough Seas and continuing unsavoury Weather- Unbelievable
We woke hoping more than expecting that the weather may have improved. Little did we know the day was to get worse with strong wild winds and regular heavy rainfall in squally showers.
So we began to think what to do. We were going to walk down to the Nerang river and have coffee but it would expose us to and open walking track down the street and along the river.
Lunch was inside after we determined it would be silly to go out on the morning squalls. After lunch we went for a walk to the Beach and was amazed how the beach had been significantly washed away and the water was close to the vegetation line of the beach and the conditions were just appalling. We walked for some 40 minutes and Jeanette suggested that we return to our Unit . A wise decision as there was a squall of wild winds and heavy rainfall for 40 mi utes after we just got in the door. The television news just advised that the Gold Coast has had 65mm of rain over the last 3 days.
But it is the longer term weather which is so surprising. For 2022 there have been 23 weekends and for 29 of those weekends it has been extremely wet over both days (Saturday and Sunday). Very much unusual and certainly not “Beautiful one day , Perfect the Next” as the marketing and advertising promotions say.
The above grid of gallery photos reflect the changing weather. We are about to leave the Sovereign hotel and travel to the Marina at Main Beach near Sea World for lunch.
This morning I contacted Gavin and then arranged for pick up from Melbourne airport at 3.45pm on Friday afternoon. Our flight originally at 10.55 was cancelled and the replacement is now at 12.55pm. So all good.
The weather has deteriorated again with another heavy squall but there is also a lovely rainbow.
Hopefully a walk down to the Nerang River this afternoon following our return from Lunch.
