Travel from Paarmuit, Frederikshab (Greenland) to Torshavn (Faroe Islands) Denmark

We sailed the 450 miles from Paarmuit, Greenland over 3 sea days and it was mostly enjoyable. The seas were relatively calm with very little movement. We sensed from Dinner and discussions that the visit to Greenland, the melting of Icebergs, the sea ice floes and the apparent impact from the Changing climate, which the locals iplore to be Manmade and human interventions have left a lasting impression upon all of us.

We thoroughly enjoyed the sea days with morning excusrion and other talks, then cooking demonstrations for those keen to learn, lunches served in the dining room and then a film before a rest and then the usual evening activities.

The weather continues to be mild with no jumpers or pullovers required out on Deck. However , the forecast for arrival in the Capital of the Faroe Islands, Torshavn in cooler with strong winds and a maximum temperatures or !2C after a minimum of 10C. We arrive at 7.00am and depart at 5.00pm with morning tours departing the ship at 8.45am.

We are clothed in jumpers and with rain gear on too as breakers of the wind.

The Faroe Islands have been on previous itineraries which we have taken both with Princess and Oceania. This time we booked a ship’s tour for the morning

Let me briefly discuss the Faroe Islands and its capital Torshavn, named after the Tor, the god of weather, strength and growth in the Nordic mythology. It is situated amongst the 18 islands which make up this chain, and Torshavn has a population of 20,000. Torshavn translates to Tor’s Harbour and the locals call it simply the Harbour.

The local harbour houses are painted in every colour of the rainbow. Thery can be found at the seaport and then up the Hills from the port to the highest part of the island.Torshgavn is situated in the south east coast of Streymoy the largest of the 18 islands . The Timganes is now home to the Faroese Government . The charming Constructons date back to the Viking Age. A stunning part are the roof’s of most houses are covered in gardens and grasses (turf-roofed).

WE visit a home and restaurant / cafe to enjoy the style of housiong, the roofed home , the fromnt of the home taking in the view toward the ocean and the rer covered by pathways to the road and elsewhere in the vallage toward the Centre. We enjoy cake and coffee and liquor. .

We visited Slkansin, which is a popular vantage point ., near the lighthouse perched on a cliff near the local fort. from thew 16th Century.
