We took the decision early to have several feature trees and spotlights to accentuate the colours and warmth of these trees.
The first decision was forced upon us though a disagreement with the local council over the removal of a Cypress Pine tree. We sought Council advice and were advised by the Council and contractor that no permit was required to remove what we saw as a large and dangerous unattractive weed. Subsequently with the tree half down and only an arrowhead at the top remaining Council officers arrived to advise that as owners we were liable for the destruction and removal of a tree in a vegetation overlay area. There were letters flying back and forward with threats of massive fines. Eventually we gained Council approval and support to finish the interrupted removal and then affect replacement with a specific Japanese Maple with dark cherry leaves in summer/ autumn.
Subsequently, we refined the plan to tidy up and plant further Crepe Myrtle and Iceberg Roses along the garden bed beside the garage. These give us a pageant of Autumn colours and with the spotlights provide a spectacular colour show at night.
