Harbourtown and Sea Pines .

We woke at about 7.10am to a near perfect morning. Temperatures of 27C and almost a totally clear morning.

This morning we are driving to the nearby Post Office to check the cost of sending a small box home to Australia. Then driving on to Harbourtown to take phots , have a drink and maybe an ice-cream and then to Visit the relatively new HGVC Ocean 22 property for a look.

Today is very much a relax and take it easy, go back and enjoy Harbourtown and its lighthouse and the general precinct.

We have had a remarkable time here at Hilton Head Island and it is enjoyable, relaxing and with plenty to do.

Whilst the weather has been extreme, it hasn’t impacted us to any extent throughout, apart from the last half hour of Ken’s golf yesterday afternoon ,where it was 92F and 88 % humidity. He returned back to Bluewater exhausted and wet through.

We have got around easily and the small car has been excellent. The restaurant Catch22, lived yup to our previous experiences. The rain over the first 2 and a half days was annoying but didn’t hinder what we wanted to do.

So this morning we went to Harbourtown and the Sea Pines estate. The weather was a bit cooler and we arrived at 9.15am , only to be surprised to be greeted by hundreds of people around the Car park and Lighhouse area, which has been dramatically changed with a major restructuring and re development with a superb building. The Marina has the amazing boats , but the pier has been rebuilt to include a small harbour area for the tourist boats and Vagabond Cruises. It is a substantially improved set up.

We didn’t see and Dolphins today. There was much activity out on the water and the following photos depict such. we did sit in the Red rocking chairs, enjoyed sitting and watching the passing traffic. Ken had a coffee and we waited for him to finish. we saw the Red Trolley bus which runs on two different agendas to transport people around the island. Fortunately, we found [parking beside the Marina, yet another 15-20 minutes there was no parking in this precinct.

We left the Light House at Harbourtown at about 10.50am and travelled to the Tanger 1 Outlets where we did a little shopping. We had first thing this morning proved that it is no longer feasible or economical to send homes to Melbourne, boxes of clothing and goods purchased cheaply at the outlets. No longer have the larger boxes and the minimum overseas postal cost is US$88.78, but this varies depending upon size and weight.

As a consequence we did a little shopping.

Then back to Bluewater at 12.20pm for lunch.

At 2.30pm Ken departed to do two things as follows:

  • Visit Shipyards Golf course Clubhouse to purchase some ball markers. He then had a drink at the Hotel overlooking the water and the 18th Green. Again didn’t see any alligators but was told that the afternoon heat is too hot for them at this time.

  • Then drove to HGVC Ocean Oaks Resort, here at Hilton Head Island, near the Coligny Beach, and then went through the Grounds as a member. Very pleased with the resort and its outdoor areas and the Beach.

So the following photos reflect those activities:

The above photos reflect Shipyard Golf Club which consisted of 3 9 hole courses and they mix and match two of the nines for an 18 hole.

Ken has played here on several occasions. It is a nice course but not of the quality of the Country Club of Hilton Head.
