Day 2 - visit to Ajaccio - Arriving 11.00 am - Depart 6.30 pm

We were obviously tired and we slept well until about 7.45 am and then arose to see a perfectly clear day with a slow lazy morning before we went to breakfast in Taste dining room. Jeanette enjoyed fruit followed by Eggs Benedict, which she regularly has on Day 1 or 2 of cruises.

Following breakfast, we set about exp[loring the ship and are amazed at the many features and things for predominantly families and younger people to be involved.

It is a big resort-style ship with everything from rock climbing to games and sports with a young enthusiastic crew, willing participants.

At about 10.15 am we begin to see land and it then takes about 50 minutes to dock on the seaward side of Corsica a French province. We haven’t been to Corsica on previous holidays and this is an enjoyable experience. We have a ship excursion, but it is all well organized. We visit the Calanques with stunning seaside sceneryand it is so beautiful that it has been designated as a Unesco World Heritage site. We are on buses and travel North from Ajaccio to the anciant Grek vllage of Cargese. We climb through a stunning pass called San Sebastian Pass after a gentle climb. We take in the spectacular view of the Sagone Gulf and can see up to the peak of Monte Cinto. A walking tour ( gentle) folows and we learn more of the history and how some 60 0 Greek, fleeing the Turkish invasion sought refuge in Corsica.

Cargese is an attractive town of whitewashed houses set out on a rocky promontory overlooking the deep blue Bay.

We see two fine period churches from the 16th Century. all impressive.

We then travel on and visit one of corsica’s natural wonders, “The Calanches of Piana, again a UNESCO World Heritage Site. > We do marvel at the rose-colored Granite cliffs, They do plunge into the Blue sea in spectacular rocky outlets. It is simply stunning. The road is dangerous for the buses and even on a day without many tourists parking and passing is treacherous.

A terrific outing, spectacular scenery, and unimaginable beauty.

Then back to the ship after approximately 6 hours. We stopped for a drink and ice cream at a little village.
