Our Holiday in Central Australia and then our  APT Northern Wilderness Road Tour from Darwin to Broome (June - July 2015).

We travelled to Central Australia for 3 nights to visit Uluru ( Ayres Rock) and The Olgas as the starting point for our Northern Australia Wilderness Holiday with APT.   Our flight from Melbourne took us to Ayres Rock where we had booked 3 nights accommodation at Sails in the Desert a 5 star resort as part of a package with AAT Kings.  It turned out to be an excellent decision that simplified the planning and transferred all of the responsibility back onto the travel company and they delivered outstanding service and quality excursions around "the Rock" and The Olgas.

The following daily diary records our adventures and the enthralling rich outback country with the magnificent diversity of colours and spectacular scenery.

An outstanding holiday which took us outside our comfort zone in rough country.  Accommodation was superb mostly in Wilderness Camps and quality Resorts.   The standard of cuisine was also outstanding.  Nothing could have prepared us for the rough roads and the corrugated unmade and unsealed roads.  Jeanette and I also found some of the walking along rough tracks with serious climbing within rough gullys, beyond our capabilities.  That in itself was a surprise but a realistic assessment of our capabilities and Ken in particular cannot, after his multiple operations on knees and ankles, do what he has been capable of previously.

This has been a wonderful  experience where we witnessed a part of Australia, which we hadn't contemplated beforehand.  The remoteness  and the isolation were unexpected but also added to our enjoyment.  We have now benefited from the wonderful scenery, amazing colours and wilderness expanses which are indescribable.  We hope you enjoy our diary and the many spectacular photos.
