Our Garden is lovely April 2020.
Wherever we have lived we have through Jeanette’s passion for her garden and flowers, always enjoyed the beauty of the garden and been blessed by the colours of the many plants. Ken whilst appreciative of the garden and the ever changing colours is more interested in the lawns.
This was an old well established 40 year garden with many plants being past their best and requiring reinvigorating or replacement.
We have a gardener who does the heavy lifting and digging. He recommended some serious renovations and we also had to populate the two ponds at the front and outside Ken’s office window at the rear and side of the home.
Jeanette decided not to rush and to make a slow and planned renovation and upgrade. We also were conscious that the beautiful gum tree on our nature trip would take mos of the water and goodness out of the flower bed on the far side of our driveway.
So that required some detailed planning and scheduling. We had previously had a elongated process of dispute with Monash council over the removal of a Cyprus Pine and replacement with a superb Japanese Maple. That was eventually resolved to all parties satisfaction without the threatened fine.
Our planting was planned to enable separate flower beds to settle and be populated with a number of plants and then to subsequently fill in the various gaps and holes.
Over this time Ken and Peter sowed a beautiful front lawn, did the same with buffalo for the Nature strip.
At the rear the handkerchief of lawn would not take due to the issue of shade and eventually required that we lay synthetic grass. A great result.
The first 2 years were slow and frustrating with tough weather with a hot and dry late spring, right through summer and into Autumn.
But the last 18 months have seen much progress and we now have a garden that is strikingly beautiful, captures the idea of low maintenance and has a variety of flowers of varying colours and blooms of different tonnes throughout the year. For Jeanette her “grannies” garden is a joy. Ken has a lawn to be admired in the front which showcases our home.
When it is lit at night it looks stunning and is exactly what we worked hard to establish and to now enjoy.
