Melbourne for AFL Premiers for 2021 - After 57 Years without Success this is a stunning Performance.
We are delighted to celebrate the success of our Melbourne Demons with a wonderful result in the Grand Final held at Optus Stadium in Perth. The Grand Final is traditionally held in Melbourne at the MCG but as a consequence of Covid-19 Pandemic with associated lockdowns in our home state of Victoria, it was moved to Perth, Western Australia. It was also a twilight event and they produced a wonderful event.
This team, our Melbourne Demons (Dees) coached by Simon Goodwin and captained by Max Gawn has been undeniably brilliant over the last half of the season and simply brilliant throughout the Finals. They played exciting brilliant football in winning finals against other good sides by more than 10 goals. In the Grand Final, they dominated the second half after the Bulldogs led at half time and then opened up a 19 point lead before Melbourne swung into top gear producing mesmerising football in the later part of the 3rd quarter and went on to win by 72 points against the Western Bulldogs. A day to remember forever. Also Christian Petracca was the Norm Smith Medallist for Best player on the ground.
I will never forget our captain Max Gawn holding the Premiership Cup up high.
After many years where we felt this was an unlikely possibility, they have built a brilliant squad and delivered.
So after all these years we experienced an unbelievable experience of this team winning an unexpected premiership which may lead to further success over the coming years.
So after the Grand final the MFC made the Cup available for members to visit our home ground MCG and have photos taken with the Cup at the MCG Sports Museum.
We did this as a family and it was a wonderful day. To be able to celebrate, hold the Cup and do it with the family all engaged and involved was just something special and to be remembered.
Then theMelbourne football Club made a day in December 2021 for the players and the Club leaders and former players to join with 35,000 plus of the paid up members to visit the MCG for another day of Club celebration.
Simply an unbelievable day, which we never thought would occur.
The following photos are from those days. We will never forget after such a long period in the wilderness to succeed and to look forward to more success is just amazing
