Our Viking Cruises Holiday concludes at Sheraton towers and hotel in Ho Chi Minh and we fly to Penang and stay at Shangri La Rasa Sayang, Penang.
This has been another amazing holiday through Vietnam ( North and south) as well as Cambodia and then cruising for 8 days on the Mekong River.
Last night we enjoyed our final celebratory dinner at a unique Vietnamese restaurant, then packed and we enjoyed a final breakfast with Greg and Nancy, before saying our good byes.
We had a large bus to take us to Ho Ch Iminh International airport and we were accompanied by Lee our tour guide.
We checked in with Air Asia for our flight from Ho Chi Minh to Penang , where we were expoecting and enjoyable afternoon and evening at the beautiful Shangri La.
However, our flight was delayed intitially dur to weather and then a technical / mechanical issue. Out 12.30 pm flight eventiuall departed at almost 4.00pm and it being a Friday afternoon and Public holiday we encountered extremely heavy traffic following the 1 hour and 45 minute flight and then 45 minutes clearing <alaysian customs and Immigration. We eventually reached the Hotel after almost 2 hours of driving. Ken was cranky and disappointed. We were both tired and everything was closed for the night.
We unpacked as little as possible, threw our selves into bed and had a good night’s sleep although very disappointed.
This has been a frustrating and disappointing 24 hours through to the delays with Air Asia of almost 5 hours with the additional traffic challenges from Penang airport to the Shangri La.
We are tired after the wonderful Viking holiday and Cruise on the Mekong with the Viking Saigon river cruise ship.
However, we get through it and the arrival at the stunning Danna Hotel is a pleasant experience.
The Shangri La is a superb hotel and the return trip is only 40 minutes which we had expected to be the timeframe mid afternoon and not the shambolic traffic jam and two hour route.
