Hilton Hawaiian Village - Departing Waikikian after three wonderful days.
We checked out at 10.15am on Saturday 8th July and then cloaked our luggage and went to wait the time for transfer to the Honolulu Cruise Terminal to board the Pride of America for our cruise around the islands. We are scheduled to board at 2.30pm with the ship departing at 7.00pm this evening.
So this post is really a recollection of our days here to reflect the last day with visit to Ala Moana Shopping Centre, where Jeanette purchased a couple of shirts, then return to the Village on the Pink Line bus at cost of $3 per person ( increased from $2-$3.00) but still a great way to get around.
Ken had walked along the Waikiki beach , watched the crowds swimming, had a swim in the tapas pool as the Great pool was too busy, then prepared for the spectacular Fireworks display which were delayed until 8.00pm and the crowd around the Lagoon was large and noisy. So many people come from outside the village with their camping style gear to watch.
Ken arrived at 7.20pm and was ideally placed in the neighbouring car park adjacent to the Lagoon and beat many of the hundreds of people to arrive and secured an excellent vantage point.
The Fireworks are stunning and the crowd cheering remains unique from our travel experiences.
They last approximately 7.00-10.00 minutes and are a Kaleidoscope of colours and noise.
So after a great time watching the fireworks, Ken walked back to our unit 2408 and we then had pizza and bread followed by strawberries and ice-cream and yoghurt followed by a coffee. A very enjoyable day.
Off to bed at about 10.00pm and woke at 02.35 am and checked the scores in the football and cricket. The latter was washed out and Melbourne were 14 points in front at the 17 minute mark of the 4th quarter. Checked again at 3.00am and the demons won by 21 points in another unimpressive display. Then received a message from David as to Melbourne winning.
Ken has been experiencing back pains and got up and took tablets then slept through until 7.30 am and Jeanette woke him, we had breakfast and packed.
We checked out and I am writing this from the guest lounge on 8th floor of the Waikikian.
Shortly we will have lunch of salad rolls.
Time is passing quickly. We will depart here at 2.25 pm with A cHsarlie taxi to take us to the port as mentioned earlier.
The beautiful Rainbow Tower from the Lagoon prior to the fireworks
So this video summarises last night’s fireworks display and we are now ready to depart Hilton Hawaiian Village to join the Pride of America for the next seven days before returning for another 9 days her. We both feel well and invigorated with beautiful warm weather of 27=28 degrees Celsius.
