Our Covid-19 and our Isolation and Recovery Experience - April 2022
It is late April 2022 and Jeanette and Ken are well and excited as to the forthcoming Queensland holiday on the Gold Coast and it is our intention to have our second booster and flu jab in early June upon our return.
However, having been super cautious and wary of visiting Shopping Centres and Sporting events. We are keen to remain clear of the virus and have worked assiduously to prevent or mitigate opportunities where we may be exposed.
In our area and across Melbourne and Victoria there has been a significant increase in the caseload of Covid following the easing of restrictions, but our population is 96 % vaccinated (2) and over 65% have had their 3rd booster with those of our age group now being eligible for a second booster and 4th overall.
The Shock of initial Positive Test and then subsequent Isolation, Daily follow up and Eventual recovery- April 2022.
So it was with a sense of shock that Ken tested positive with Covid-19 on Saturday in late April. We had friends for afternoon tea on the Wednesday ,all were well but subsequently a couple also tested positive. Ken Tested negative with a RAT prior to golf on Friday. He awoke on Saturday with a runny nose and a scratchy throat. So off for a PCR test which subsequently proved positive at 3.00AM on Sunday morning. So he was assessed as positive on Friday and monitored by Monash/ Waverley Health on a daily basis. There was a daily SMS message and telephone call. Each of these tested for symptoms and impact and temperatures. Fortunately, Ken had very mild symptoms over the several days. He was cleared on the following Friday by Monash/ Waverley Medical and allowed to resume activities.
Similarly, Jeanette developed symptoms on the Saturday and also tested positive via RAT and then went and had a PCR test on the Sunday and was also confirmed as positive on Monday morning and was required to lockdown and isolate , like Ken from Saturday to Saturday. The same processes followed with daily follow up via Monash / Waverley Health who provided an outstanding daily follow up via both App and then telephone calls as to condition and symptoms. Jeanette recovered quite quickly but was unable to do anything for the week under the Covid protocols.
Ken was allowed to get back to normal issues on the Friday, some 4 Days before we depart for our Queensland.
Jeanette was then also released from isolation and home quarantine on the Sunday morning and as a consequence was allowed to do some minor shopping. We have both experienced outstanding support from Monash/ Waverley Health but can clearly identify as to being fortunate in experiencing a mild case. Jeanette still has a slight cough. Ken is fully recovered.
As an aside Jeanette is still experiencing fatigue and is needing an afternoon sleep.
Our Recovery and Future Plans for Travel in 2022,2023 and 2024.
In conclusion, we feel blessed, we have experienced and overcome a mild form of Covid . Our family and friends have been supportive and the medical support and expertise has been outstanding.
We now feel comfortable to resume our overseas travel and are planning to complete 14 weeks travel in 2022 and then 18 weeks in 2023 and similarly are planning some 16 weeks in 2024. We have an exciting programme of planned travel having overcome the health risk of the initial Covid-19 virus. However, we are conscious that as we age and mature our health and physical capabilities will impact our ability to undertake and enjoy our travel.
