1st November, 2017. Perfect day in Rome
/We both slept well after an East but tiring day ttavelling. Last night we enjoyed a meal at HostariaLuce in Via Della Luce 44 Trastevere-Roma, some 5 minutes walk from ARoma Lifestyle Hotel.
We have awoken to a perfect morning with not a cloud in the sky.
The entrance to our hotel here in Rome
The view from the Sky Bar on 3rd floor, but we are only 7 km from the hustle and bustle of downtown. There is a shuttle on the hour to and from Otovianna Station area. We took the shuttle and we were dropped off near the Vatican City about 15 minutes later, but unbeknown to us the Rome Marathon was being run. So we had a long walk past the Vatican City to get to stop 6. We then enjoyed the next 3 stops before we concluded this first leg with a 15 minute stopover at the Terminal A, before doing another full round which took some 100 minutes.
Our comfortable king bed. Have we needed this after all the walking.
We caught the shuttle downtown about 15 minutes drive to the external wall of the Vatican City.
From here we rode the Hop on Hop off bus and took in all of the wonderful tourist sites.
We comenced having walked from the Vatican City to stop number 6 . But given there was also the Roman Marathon, it was absolutely chaos, even more than usual. We walked passed the Castle of St. Angelo and then across the bridge to Stop 6. We rode the bus for one whole lap with an extensive break at the terminal A. From here we travelled in the general area of Trevi Fountian, aligh ed the bus and walked 15 minutes to the fountain, which looks fantastic. We took photos before stopping at a restaurant for a Panini and beer. Expensive but good. Stop 8 is Piazza Barbarini, where we also alight and walk through the area. We then got on and walked through the Coloseum area, still amazing, but hordes of people. We also drove past Circus Maximus, still just a grass area.
We then visited the Forum took in th3 amazing relics, then drove passed the Wedding Cake and Gariboldi’s home. This is all amazing.
We did almost 2 circuits of the Red Hop on Hop off bus route. The history, many cathedrals and churches is just amazing.
Our pick up time is 5.00pm, but we arrive some 40 minutes early, but we are 200 metres away from the correct location and are forced to then take an alternate route and pick up a cab. We arrive back ahead of the bus and explain but to no avail. We have enjoyed a fantastic day in Rome.
