16th October 2017 The first of two days with Rich and Elizabeth in Portland Oregon
/We awake having slept very well. Arrangements are for Rich and Elizabeth to pick us up at 9.30am and for us to enjoy a late brunch at La Provence Pattisserie a stylish French breakfast and all day eatery in Lake Oshwego. There was great excitement as we gave each other welcome greeting hugs. This was an interesting venue, with stylish decor, superb French pastries and assorted food. We enjoyed a Mimosa followed by French crepes
Following breakfast we went for a walk through the Shopping area and along the waterfront via the lake, then we drove through various leafy areas and arranged our plans for today to include a visit to the famed Japanese Gardens of Portland and then visit the adjoining famed Rose Gardens, where our host , Rich has a stone named in his fathers honour and a rose named “Duke”.
We walked up and down the stepped walkways, thoroughly enjoyed the visit and thoroughly enjoyed the stunning gardens.
A highlight was the short walk from the Rose Gardens and through the award winning roses.
They then dropped us off at Embassy Suites, where we rested for a time before dining at a Peruvian Restaurant, which is regarded as one of the best overall restaurants in the city of Portland. We enjoyed a small plates framework of 4 plates as starters then had amazing Desserts. The food was superb, the venue excellent, but the noise was very difficult. We had a wonderful night.
Then back to the Embassy Suites, for a rest overnight. It has been a fantastic day in beautiful weather.
